everyone, even those without androgenic alopecia, lose density. don't remember the exact name, but it is age related thinning and according to dr. proctor, it's about 1% "loss" a year. so i guess that's why even non male pattern baldness people experience miniaturization of hairs.

same here. got gyno symptoms after about a month's use, twice a day on a hydrated scalp. puffy nipples, liquid coming out when i squeezed the nipple and chest pain. quit spironolactone about a week ago and the pain and liquid is gone and the swelling is much better. seems to be returning to normal.

spironolactone does work, but weren't you previously on "the big three"? if so, i don't think you can expect spironolactone to work as well as finasteride, nizoral and minoxidil combined. i use spironolactone 5% twice a day. have been on it for about two months now. i think i might have shed a little bit at each temple. not a lot...

there are some studies proving spironolactone has an antiandrogen effect when applied topically and dr.lee and dr.proctor both think is an effective treatment. problem is, i don't think you'll find many who use spironolactone alone. most combine it with other treatments such as minoxidil and/or finasteride.

i think it might be an, irrational, defense mechanism of sorts. tell people who experience side effects to shut up, in hope that the side effects themselves will go away. people who use finasteride, want it to be safe. the fact that a fair number of people here experience severe side effects, is...

does topical spironolactone lead to an upregulation of androgen receptors? if so, does it lead to upregulation in specific areas of the scalp, namely where you apply the spironolactone? because, if it's all over, couldn't that, in theory, accelerate the balding process elsehwere? the places you weren't applying...

there are a few studies that document its effects. for more details, look at some of bryan's earlier posts on the subject. it has about 2/3 the affinity of dht for receptors. so it will work, but it won't grow back your hair. it'll probably help you maintain. dr.proctor, for instance, thinks...

hate to say it, but your hairline is receding/thinning. if you look at the left temple, it is ever so slightly thinner. of course, it could stop there or progress very slowly. same thing happened to me, but it's taken close to ten years and i'm still about a nw2,5. so you are unfortunately...

same thing here. libido dropped quickly, to the point when morning erections were gone. just days after starting finasteride. maybe psychosomatic, maybe not. either way, it doesn't really matter as the effects were there and only appeared after i began finasteride.
