I am pretty sure that scientists already found hell lots of beneficial product for people, but medicine is business as everything.

Imagine what would happen if suddenly magic pill would be found for depression, anxiety or any other mental problems…
It would have ruined f*****g all SSRI, SSRI etc. companies, same with psychotherapists and so on..

I am not saying that they actually found cure for baldness, but it is hard to imagine for me, to see anytime cure for grey hair, because all dying cosmetics would be not needed. Would be huge loss for industries.

If you don't believe me about this corrupting, read biography of THE GREATES Scientist ever existed Nikola Tesla. How he was rubbed from ideas and industries owned by Edison took money from it. Sad and eye opening story :(

i am pretty sure you are talking out of your ***. will people ever stop with this "boohoo, they have a cure but dont want to give it to me" nonsense?

how come finasteride is so easily available and cheap then? why didnt big bad pharma company magically hide it from the rest of the world and keep selling some snake oil product at 500$ per monthly supply? why are new meds and treatments being approved on a daily basis then, when old ones could be used and charged for forever? why didnt anyone teach you about market, competition, public interest etc in school?

every single medicine related discussion online has to have at least one enlightened moron spouting that worn out, comically false conspiracy bullshit as if he was the first person ever to come up with it.

f*****g idiots.

So shut up you idiot.

Because it is worthless for many people + side effects. It is not magic cure I was talking about.

Where are the eternal optimists? This thread should be full of posts from the dudes who believe salvation is right around the corner. 2018 is 1/12th finished and do we really think things will be improved when it’s 1/2 finished? Or 3/4 finished? And yet there was all this triumphalist talk about 2018 being ~the year~. I’m still hopeful and I’m only half serious but sometimes I want to have an inquisition where the optimists are called to atone for their previous promises. What is something tangible we can look to besides wait and see??

f*****g idiots.

Merck held the exclusive patent until less than 5 years ago, so of course they would want to sell as many pills as they could. Merck IS big pharma, and they had an exclusive product that offered a mild to moderately effective treatment for hair loss. It was also in their best interest to suppress any side effects from public consciousness at the very least until the patent expired, when the drug would no longer be as profitable for them. They probably knew that, as an anti-androgen, it could help reverse hair loss when they initially developed the drug for BPH. However, by releasing their research later for this second application of hair loss, they could extend the patent. Meanwhile, it was already being prescribed off-label for hair loss prior to this patent, so they were making plenty of money off finasteride from the outset.

Now that it's sold as a generic, other brands want to make money off it. Why would any of these companies WANT a third party to develop a superior medication and hold a patent on that for 20 years? So that they can make a generic in 20 years?

We already have evidence that the pharmaceutical industry will encourage GPs to give out dangerous pain killers to patients like candy, because they make money off doing so. It's not because they want the world to be pain free. The opioid epidemic was created by big pharma to make money off people by destroying their lives. They lied about Oxycontin being effective for 12 hours, leading patients to be placed on higher doses and resulting in addiction and death. And I don't even need to get started on Martin Shkreli's price hike for much needed HIV medication, from $13.50 to $750 per capsule overnight.

My only point here is, I wouldn't put ANYTHING past greedy business men. They will quite literally KILL for money. If they have no problem with that, they have no problem keeping people sick or bald.

This is all so frustrating

People in 500 years will look at images of bald men in shock, thankfull that they dont had to live in such primitive times.

We're already at a point where around 80% should never theoretically bald with finasteride and minoxidil. Fevipirant will come out soon, thats another alternative, but most likely will work best as an adjunctive treatment. Prp is controversial on boards but theres enough evidence now that it works for a significant proportion of men. I think were almost at a point now that any rich person who notices balding early shouldnt really ever go bald.

Fevipirant (effective in around 70% of men)
Finasteride (effective in around 80% of men)
Minoxidil (effective in around 50%)
Prp (effective in around 50%)
Hair transplant

Shiseido, follica and tsuji in a best case scenario will be available soon too, however commercialisation is always the biggest hurdle. As much as some will be pessimistic there really has never been a more optimistic time for someone suffering from hair loss.

Also, apologies for the double posting but follica updated their website and they are still claiming a pivotal trial will begin within the next 5 months, and still claiming the effectiveness is 3/4x current treatments.

Yes, we should take whatever we have right now and be thankful, just imagine people go bald 50 years ago, they are completely doomed.
