I think the medications cause periodic effluvium, though some report better gains recovering afterwards (6-12 months) while others say they didn't gain anything back. It feels like my hair cycles are lined up, with waves of hair moving into telogen at the same time.
I'm certain I've lost hair...
I had been integrating 5mg finasteride after taking generic finasteride for 1 yr, and brand name for 1 yr— the switch from brand name to generic 1mg did not cause a shed.
I'm slowly recovering now, would say about 70% of what was lost has come back, but it seems to be a bit thinner and...
Just wanted to chime in and let everyone know that at almost 5 months, I'm noticing a little regrowth, but nothing significant. Looks like it's going to take at least a full year if it's going to all come back the way it was when I had the shed.
In my experience, just stay with the...
From everything that I have gathered, you should expect at least one year to get everything back. Assuming you continue with your medications as you always have.
You'll probably want to keep your hair shorter, as the regrowth will take place over several months, with hair at different lengths...
You've got to hang on. That's not a long enough time to see results. You've got to have the commitment to follow through for at least one full year. Ideally, two years.
Some people see shedding after 2 to 3 weeks of minoxidil, some it takes much longer. For me, I didn't see a lot of shedding...
I've been posting on a few shedding threads because I'm going through a huge one as well.
To me, it sounds like you need to get on a *consistent* regimen for at least 6-9 months and see what happens.
All those changes are going to trigger sheds, and the more you change them the more...
I know it's brutal! The avodart might be encouraging the shed as well— so hopefully you see improvement.
I'm pretty confident I'll start seeing re growth in August, just really rough to wait it out.
Do you use concealers? They're helpful during a bad shed.
Are the hairs you're shedding good club chairs, or miniaturized, or both?
Have you had any changes in medication? Any recent illness 3 to 6 months ago?
I recently posted on here because I'm going through the same thing as you – only it happened to me at about two years after starting...
I've been searching for the same info, bad 2 month shed at 2yrs.
If you're not on Finasteride, it will be harder to keep hair, in general.
I think some people freak out with a shed and then as it grows back they don't bother reporting back here.
Seems like the consensus is that if...
Update!
Just wanted to post an update— another 2 weeks of shedding, though it now appears to be slowing. Being VERY consistent about meds (1mg finasteride in the morning before 10a, Rogaine 2x daily 12 hours apart, shampooing with only nizoral, no hair products).
At this point I'm fairly certainly I've...
I've had 2 major sheds from finasteride/minoxidil in the past two years, the second of which I'm currently going through and it's worse that the first.
Happened b/c I stopped minoxidil daily (I got lazy, and only used it a few times/wk).
It will grow back. Keep up with the regimen.
I just cut...
I think it's pretty much impossible, if not, extremely rare. You should expect some shedding from the minoxidil use.
It only takes a few months. If those hairs fell out – it was because they were going to fall out anyway.
The whole point is in is to force the existing chairs to fall out...
Been through some rough sheds (going through my worst one right now @ 2 years) b/c I wasn't being dedicated in using it everyday.
It will work- it's proven. How much shedding and how much re growth all depends on multiple factors (age, race, receptivity, if you're using nizoral and...
