Really Want To Take Finasteride But Horrified Of The Sides

I think that people tend to forget one thing... when you decide to take Finasterid, you are actually taking in pursuit of one of its side effects: slowing hair loss. Because in the grajd scheme, slowing hair loss was abside effect that on itself proved to he worthy of pursuing. And this side effect is just one of many others...

No man, I've only tried minoxidil a few years back. It proved to be too much of a burden so I quit. I would rather follow a pill treatment than that neurotic applying of the foam. It makes always focus, wonder and gravitate around the issue.
I also tried Saw Palmetto and a bunch of vitamins.... Snake oils pretty much....
I was and still am on standby regarding Finasteride because even though I absolutely value my hair, I value my overall wellbeing above the hair. I can't imagine not having the sex drive and not being able to get hard or to require manual stimulation to achieve an erection.
I di read a lot about it and everyonce in a while reach out to different users to see and learn from their experience.
yes that is the phase I am at you. I’m only younger so it’s a weird situation. On one side I don’t want to lose my hair now but on the other hand not being able to get an erection does not sound good, as you said

The fear of CB ? CB is far safer than finasteride.

As for finasteride its not an AA..Its a 5ar inhibitor - an enzyme which does a lot more than just convert test to DHT.

i knew someone would make this comment, i know it is. regardless, ar inhib are pretty ineffective in putting a pause button on balding as evidenced by a lot of users on the forum. theres a lot more talk about their ineffectiveness than their sides on here which says something.

I absolutely think the onset age of hair loss is a major detail that changes the whole equation. Had I been 15 year younger, I'd probably jump on Finasteride because back then the pressure of looking a certain way was the law of the land. Now, heading towards my 40s, is a but different. I would still like the hair as it's been such a major component of my looks throughout my life. But it seems like these days even a low 2% chance of having my sexual or otherwise overall wellbeing affected doesn't seem to make it worth pursuing this avenue. At this point it seems to me that Finasteride (or duta) would be the only 'true' way to slow down hair loss. The rest of the "big 3" are complentary to Fina. I really do believe that Fina is the most efficient way to tackle hair loss. But at least for now I am not willing to risk ending up lamenting about my dick going limp or nit being aroused at the thought of women. Don't get me wrong, I really do value and appreciate what hair can do to one's look. But a mop upstairs and a noodle downstairs is not my kind of solution.

Actually as someone that read through 10+ years of threads on this forum, I must say it's not really as you say. Many if the users who debated sides either moved one, got tired or found different platforms, in part due to the toxicity of other users who needed to sh*t and puss on everyone who stated to have sides so that they can continue their Fina journey without having their bubble burst. Even though I am not a proponent of altering your hormonal profile (due to obvious reasons) I still do think that is the most efficient treatment against classic male pattern baldness. But it does not work for all. I believe the official number puts ut at about 80% success rate. Even if you cut it down to 50...still is much more than every other BS out there.

does taking lower doses entail the same risk? probably not much of a difference

It does entail the same risks. As you may be aware, finasteride has a practically flat dose response curve and powerfully lowers DHT levels even in minuscule amounts. I used 0.25 mg doses four times for a total ingestion of approx 1 mg. I then suffered a horrific crash three days post cessation of the drug and am still riddled with a multitude of symptoms 18 months later. Until the genetic factors which predispose a user of antiandrogenic substances to what is currently termed “post finasteride syndrome” are known, it isn’t possible to safely use the drug. Hope this helps in your decision making @Jack Burt.

thanks for your response, I am coming to the conclusion that it probably isn’t worth the risk. Have you tried novaldex and proviron to boost your dht. I have heard that it has helped people with pfs but obviously I am no specialist. Out of curiosity, do you believe that the percentage that get hit with side effects really is 2-6% or a much larger percentage?

Sorry to hear about your reaction to finasteride . I would however like to point out that the flat dose response curve for finasteride is only flat for serum DHT and not concentrations of DHT in specific tissues i.e brain, hair follicle, genitals - with that being said efficacy of finasteride is actually quite linear.

I first noticed my thinning before even many of the eagle eyed people on hair loss forum could see it. I held off on finasteride for years and finally started it when it became obvious.

Had I started in the beginning, I had a real shot at going back to full density or close enough that only people looking really close could tell. Now I can only hope to maintain and thicken what's there. I regret not starting sooner all the time.

Keep in mind that people like us are out there too. Those of us who could have started sooner but didn't and regret it.

Does anybody know what percentage of people get permanent sides? Is it close to 0.5%

Started back when it wasn't generic yet for over a year but had to stop because of the cost (very dumb) then got back on in early-mid 2018 using generic.

Only noticeable side both times was the testicle ache in the first week and then nothing.

That's good. Don't waste time thinking about what might have been or regretting what you could have done. Enjoy your sideless treatment and go on thinking that you are doing something about it. It's nice to hear from people who treat it and have no adverse issues.

There are still some bullets left I haven't tried yet like dutasteride and minoxidil so I feel I'm doing something about it but not everything. I've always intended to use dutasteride but I wanted to see how I responded to finasteride long term before I go all the way. I think the time will come to switch over soon.
