I’m planning on seeing a doctor tomorrow. I don’t have a problem with any side effects because at this age losing my hair is a really big deal.

I visited a general doctor a few days ago. She ended up looking a bit at my hairline, tried to pull hair out and told me I was fine and there was no balding. I’m still a little worried about the sides because its so much shorter but because its not a usual pattern of balding I think eating healthier and not pull a hair out in that area should stop it from getting worse (If I don’t see any improvements soon I’ll go back) . So I think I’ll wait to see if my hair changes and be healthier.

Ok, good luck.

Maybe try wetting it and combing it back so the hairline is fully exposed and take some photos of the top of your head and sides and then do it again in 3 months and see if there is any difference.

It's important to keep tabs on it if you think anything might possibly be happening and combing it back while it's wet will prevent any variables like hair falling in front of the hairline from interfering with getting an accurate read on where everything is at.

Try not to worry about it though, and if there even is anything there it may just resolve itself on its own anyway.

Good luck!

I’ll take a picture with wet hair combed back once every week so I’ll know if anything changes. I also have one last question about the difference between thin, miniaturized and fine hair. I’m pretty sure I have fine hair and I was wondering if the sides were thin or just shorter hairs.

Could it be retrograde alopecia? I saw a video from hairliciously and the thumbnail looks very similar to what I have (no recession on my scalp but small/thin hairs on the sides).

I don't think you need to do it every week, maybe once a month, otherwise it is probably too unhealthy obsessing over it that often.

Have no idea what retrograde alopecia is, but had a look on Google and it does look somewhat similar to how your hair appeared in a couple of the photos.

Again, if you have serious doubt that the hair is fine, you need to see a scalp specialist (trichologist or derm).

I guess just watch it over the next few months and reassess then.

It looks even worse when my hair is wet
Best advice right now is go to a really good barber and explain to them your concerns. They can do wonders for making it appear more full.

I honestly think the biggest problem is that your hair has an odd growth pattern. Most peoples hair does not grow in so many different directions. This gives the appearance of wispiness and less fullness even though that is not necessarily the case.

The thing about the shorter hairs that confuses me is that I haven’t had a haircut in at least a year.

I also noticed the affected area is a lot worse on my right side which makes me hope I pulled out too many hairs but its unlikely thats the case because im not pulling my hair out all day.

Kid you're not balding - not even close. That hairline of yours is just what you've been born with. The fact you still have those short baby hairs in your temples (NW0) tells me you're not balding.

Even if you start balding at 18-20 you'll be fine. Cell based treatments are literally being marketed as of current. You're safe.

Go climb a tree or something and enjoy your life.
The velus (baby) hairs are growing out at a strange angle making them appear like diffuse hairs when they're pretty much the opposite.

This kid needs a good lineup and proper cut.

This can’t all be velus hair right?

They are baby hairs. They are not terminal (adult) hairs. They don't grow at the same rate of have the same texture. These hairs will fallout before you hit your late teens like they do for everyone else. They are usually a cosmetic hindrance and in your case growing out on a weird angle. Have them cut appropriately and your hair will automatically look much better.

The pic makes it look like your hairs are thinner on the sides.

If I were you I get a good fade, line up the top and you are g2g. I don't think you're balding. I think you just have some weird *** hair growth that can probably be pretty easily masked by a barber. See the best in town though. Research. Don't go to some hack.

Does that mean i’ll end up with a hairline that starts behind my ears?
Nah, you'll probably never lose those hairs, but they will always look weird because of your growth pattern.

Ask for a high and tight fade (zero) and line up the top and you'll be astonished at how much better it will look.

Everyone gets this cut these days anyway.

Trust me, it's your hair style that is doing you no favors.

What could cause my growth pattern to be like that? That haircut is pretty popular so it should work but I’d still like to fix it if possible.

It's just your natural hair. People have rounded hairlines, people have square hairlines, some people naturally have a norwood 2 hairline, some people have fine hair rather than thick hair and in your case you have baby hair on the sides.

Nothing it's just how you were born. There is no fix to patterned hair growth.

Go high and tight, and you'll feel like a new man and forget about this sh*t.

Short sides will also make the top look much fuller as well, and make sure to line it up as well.
