It helps reduce the nitric oxide from dht and something something, I haven't read enough. Someone posted this to me on another forum:
"
If your open to change, I suggest that you look into red lights. For the past 6 months, I have been using the handheld LGS7 from Red Light Therapy . I have had good results; new growth and some re-pigmentation. The handheld devices are the best value and not much of a financial commitment. They are also very versatile. I shine the light on my scalp, my thyroid and my liver area.

I became convinced of the utility of red light after reading reviews at Amazon for a helmet. The price tag for the helmet is outrageous but reading the reviews are free. Here is a link. https://www.amazon.com/iRestore-Las...8&qid=1526952259&sr=8-3&keywords=laser+helmet

Best of luck."
The red light he is using is $65
Oh yeah I’ve looked at all the irestore reviews. If I wasn’t spending a lot of money on other things I might buy one but it’s a pretty large investment for a “maybe”. What light do you use?

I was thinking of buying the handheld 830nm light, so I could use it all over but the helmet would be better for hairloss

The only LED/Laser devices that are worth a damn for hair loss would be either a high powered INFRARED LED array, such as this one:

https://redlightman.com/product/infrared-light-device-mini/ (personally used this one and maintained for over a month and a little bit of regrowth, but it won't stand up to aggressive hair loss on its own)
STUDIES: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26048721

OR

A wide-spectrum light like this that includes both short and long wavelength light:
http://zepter-lb.com/product/Bioptron-Compact-III
STUDY:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28418107
(and the one I posted above uses the earlier generation device to lower inflammatory markers in the blood)

Forget about all the HairMax, iGrow, iHelmet, and iBullshit products. Wrong wavelengths, too weak, spaced too far apart, etc.
FINALLY about to buy one of these redlightman lights.

The redlightman instructions give a distance vs J/cm2 chart.

Go back to the hair loss studies with 830 nm and compute the distance and time required to replicate the studies J/cm2.

You can either move the led panel or light bulb further back and use more time or put it closer and get less treatment time.

There is NO WAY you would want a helmet 1 inch above your head for 20 minutes.

Do the simple calculations.

I'd be curious to what the results of the laser helmets that did or didn't work on what they did to scalp temperature. LLLT is not supposed to heat the scalp and maybe the downfall of those that overpowered their hair follicles.? A laser temp device($25)would be interesting to try and see just what happens during treatment and adjust treatment times and adjust distance from the laser readings to a near zero net change from start to end of treatment as goal.
