I have had therapy in the past and now am one myself. Based on your description I think it would be a good idea to give it a shot with a therapist you click with.

I was just going to tag INT to help you. I've seen people benefit from therapy many times and you're already making huge progress with knowing what a therapist can and cannot do. It sounds like something just for you and what you need, you seem to have conditions that respond well to treatment, some serious psych disorders don't derive much benefit. One of the early advices they will give you is to remove yourself from negativity including online. There is something called Lasègue–Falret syndrome or folie a plusieurs (shared madness of many) which means that even the sane vulnerable (like you) can succumb to delusion/hallucinations based on essentially hanging with the wrong crowd. It will make your depression, anxiety, OCD increase so much more. So imo cut out places like incel forums or if you're still active with FredTheBelgian and his pad.

That's accurate af. I become a completely different person everytime i cut myself off from the incel and hateful online forums and communities and spend my time hanging out with normal, socially adjusted people instead. The difference in my personality and mood is day and night. And it feels like the world suddenly somehow changes for the better after you realize how wrong and twisted the worldview you had before

I'm planning on getting off this forum soon and all other negative/hateful forums for that matter and living a positive life instead

I think a form of group therapy helps too. But only with like minded people like yourself who want to get better or those who have overcome the same conditions you have. This forum at the moment is way too toxic for you to get better. There are a few people on here who have great insight and might be able to help you behind the scenes but finding a therapist that fits is the key.

I went once and the therapist could not even keep up with me and unfortunately knew nothing about BDD or CBT so I decided to do my own research and found some great audio books and YouTube channels that did help me alot. I found focusing less on myself and focusing more on the things I enjoy and doing service for my community was the key. Also exercise with the goal to just stay fit and healthy( nothing obsessive to look like a fitness model) is a must. I even had to let go of a very good friend who became too toxic for me. For me, I find helping people in the same boat as myself very helpful as well. This forum did teach me that I am not alone in some of my thinking but at the same time it taught me there are worse cases out there than myself which ironically made me feel somewhat better about myself.

Therapy in my case was to overcome my Aspergers, where my therapist did a great job, unfortunately he could not help me with my baldness so I had to find solutions somewhere else

There's nothing wrong with this place if you use it rightly and engage in light hearted discussions or venting with your chosen adjusted friends whenever you're free from your own life. If you find yourself arguing over crap or using this place 24/7, that's when it's a problem. That time could be way better spent on self development, calming yourself down, so much to do out there alone or with friends. Yes, you need to hang around with socially adjusted people in real life, don't look at what they say (anyone can write or say pages of motivational stuff), look at how they live their life. Subconsciously it makes world of difference, imagine 2 years in an asylum, prison or with people who are totally broken versus 2 years with socially and mentally adjusted people. Naturally it will affect someone no matter how strong they are, let alone if they are at a low point like you are on the point of exhaustion. Changing your habits online and offline is the first step of therapy.

Why do you expect many people to have a negative opinion about therapy? Yes, a therapist is not a miracle worker, but if it is the desire of you and the therapist, you can succeed and overcome major problems. I'm talking about anxiety and depression, which can lead many people to commit suicide. I am also listed among those who were just one step away from suicide. But I decided to try to go to therapy at https://aztherapyquest.com/trauma/. Until I tried the therapy, I had a bad opinion about it like everyone else, but when I tried it, I understood that it was something magical. I understood that therapy is that small chance that can radically change my life. And so it was. Now I radiate happiness and live my life to the fullest. Much depends on which specialist you find and your interest in solving your problem. So I don't think it's appropriate to listen to everyone's opinion about therapy. You have to make your own opinion.

It's worth a shot. I've heard it work really well for some, for others not so much.
It never did much for me apart from one example. And that example was just a therapist, that had similiar hobbies as me and treated me like a friend and human being and let me vent when I was at my lowest. No mind-boggling family history analytics or behavioural tricks. And it didn't resolve anything, just gave me some additional stability in a life, that was seemingly breaking apart at that point.
I guess that's better than nothing and mind you, I seem to be a very bad responder. It could do much, much more for you.
Give it a shot and don't be afraid to switch therapists a couple of times until you find one who you can vibe with.

I had some serious anxiety, so I had to have therapies to fight it. My father died, and I had to use grief counseling services. I was always being anxious and stressed. My life changed a lot, and I thought nothing would be alright in the future. I needed help to get rid of all these feelings, so I started to have therapies with a psychotherapist. He helped me a lot, and after one month of therapy sessions, I started to feel better and was thinking less about it. Now I also have some problems with it, but the therapies are still helping me.

Never listen to a female therapist's op about male pattern baldness. Mine downplayed it as "just hair".
