Why Do Only Some Of Us Go For Hair Piece, How Come It's Not So Much More Common?

The big tittle says it all. For me, this is such a logical solution if anything doesn't come out in next two years. I mean, whats the difference from loosing tooth and replacing it with an implant, and this? Why are there so many stereotypes?

I believe, that if more bald people go for hair pieces, it would become much easier to be open about it in public.

I agree. It's a shame, guys are compromising their endocrine systems with drugs or getting their heads cut up for often mediocre results, when they could get an excellent (albeit artificial) result cheaply and painlessly with a system. I think the stigma is waning a bit though, slowly but surely.

The upside, being selfish, is that for those of us who do wear, and want to keep the fact private, it's pretty easy, because very few people are aware that results of this calibre of realism are available using a prosthetic.

Once a upon a time not so long ago there was shame about boob jobs. Now women are happier and even boastful about them. The same with fillers.

As things improve and pieces are improving too, the stigma will reduce especially when high profile peopel reveal they wear and many do

Yeah, there should be no stigma - life's too short - let people do what they want without any shaming. Think of all the cosmetics used to transform a face - there's a lot of "false" beauty around (and nothing wrong with that) - a wig should be no big deal for anyone to wear.

I agree 100% with you guys, let's hope more and more people that are losing hair will start wearing pieces. It would make it easier for all of Us.

Lets not forget that plenty of women already wear wigs and weaves. Society is becoming more welcoming towards men being more "feminine" nowadays so men caring about their physical appearance enough to wear fake hair wouldn't be much of a negative thing for much longer.

It is a shame that people can be so judgmental. I have read other forums where they ask women what they think of guys who wear them, and they all say the same thing: We would look better bald, we are vain, we are insecure, they wouldn't date men who wear a hair piece. It is easy to label us and say that when you are not the one who is going through the hair loss. Other guys with full heads of hair or who are comfortable with their loss mock those of us who decide to wear one, saying it looks fake, hairline looks fake, it is too much maintenance, it will blow off in the wind etc which NONE of are true if you have a high quality one. I have attached a photo of me with the hair piece on and NO one would ever suspect a thing. I think the hairline is okay and it looks so natural on me, people who know me have said it looks great and makes me look years younger. I say do whatever makes you feel better because that's all that matters. That is what people will see, your confidence and personality as a result of looking and feeling better about yourself. If someone cannot understand that, then they are not worth having in your life anyway.

Kevie, mate, if this is really a hair piece on your head, I'll consider buying one right now :D

And I agree with everything you said. I'm very confiedent guy even with shaved head, I can get girls but still feel miserable. We can't understand each other if we don't go through same situation.

Where did you get that system and how much did it cost?

I live in Houston TX and I go to a place called Apollo Image Enhancement. They have really changed my life... I just started a month ago and it took a few times in the beginning to get the blend/style right, but I am very happy with the results--I don't dare try the de/re or maintenance myself yet. It costs about $300 per month and this includes a new piece every 3 months, wash/natural hair trim/detachment/reattachment every two weeks, and unlimited visits should something go wrong. From what I understand it is a swiss lace base and it cost around $400. I have very oily skin/scalp so they had to use glue and the tape to keep mine secure. A little expensive for some but it is so worth it to me! I have tried everything from Propecia to Rogaine, Nizoral, concealers like Toppik, DermMatch, you name it... And this has given me the best result as I refuse to go the hair transplant route. I'm looking forward to a new style and a little more length with my next piece. I attached another pic of me a week prior to the time the last one was taken, same hairpiece. :)

Very glad for you mate. It's expensive, but there is no price to feel good in you skin.

You look great Kevie. No one would ever twig that you are wearing a piece.

I believe some facebook propaganda could benefit this topic. I mean, if we can make systems just a bit easier to maintain, and to attach, we would not even need a cure for hair loss. If it would take you let's say 20 minutes a week to set it up, and there is no stigma, wouldn't that be great?

I like your second photo Kevie. I would just suggest to get a lighter color (slightly). (It seems a bit darker than the sides, / some red reflections)

Holy sh*t that looks amazing. My actual hair looks more like a hair system than that. Didn't know hair systems could go that short. Does it look real if you are super super close to the hairline?

They have to come up with an adhesive that comes out all together and not in pieces. We would save a lot of time.

The worst part of this is maintenance

I commend the guys that have the balls to wear a wig, I never could. Telling a partner I wear a wig would just be too humiliating for me. Wigs don't get to the bottom of the issue. I feel the same about concealers. If I didn't respond to Finasteride and was unsuitable for an op, I would just shave it all off and live with it. Finally, the adhesives and all that are just unsanitary in my opinion. Your skin can't breath properly and you can end up with sores and infections.

because you are essentially living a situational life style that always revolves around the hair piece.

maintenance is a pain in the *** unless you are slick bald before hand.

Hair growth, body chemistry, sweat and oil makes the attachment a pain. Every three days I had to re-glue the frontal attachment. Had a lot of issues with the side, and back coming off in the shower, and while sleeping. Despite the glue, and tape attachments. I had to much hair for it to work, and it grew fast,. The edge would never stay flush, and you can always feel it when you brush it back with your hands. it will clip the lace edge. Even after a day attachment it will still be a little flimsy. Pressing it down works, but if you were to have a women stroke your hair, she will 100% feel something weird. Not to mention the actuall hair behind the graduated front is stiff, and bristtle like. Doesnt feel natural if you go shorter then 3 inches.
