Saw A Dermatologist Who Recommends Doing Nothing?

I told him I have been noticing hair loss for the past few years but it's accelerated the past year and went from just recession to more diffuse type thinning on top. He said judging by my temples that the "right one is fine, but the left is mildly receded". He also took a look at my hair density up top via a magnifying tool of sorts and said he sees no sign of thinning. As a result he said he recommends doing nothing and he doesn't think it'll progress. However based on pictures/the mirror and just the way my hair feels (and also the opinion of members of this forum), I know for certain that it's thinning up top and I'm receding. What do you guys suggest? Take his word or see another derm?

See another derm or take actions into your own hands.

I might see another derm, I'm beginning to really question if I have BDD or not.
Post pics, I'll be brutally honest.

@HNMB If you think you have it try googling medical wellness center, they're based in the U.S and give out prescriptions to most states for about $60. The prescription lasts 6 months so it's not too expensive if you only have to do it twice a year.

They have a form which is checked by a doctor after you pick which "norwood" you are and they decide whether or not to give it to you. If you're denied they won't charge you.

Left temple recedes. But mildly.
Why don’t you choose a different derm if you don’t like this one’s therapy?
Because I'm not sure if it's the derm or I just have BDD or something. I have quite a busy schedule and with my insurance seeing a derm requires a one hour drive. Also I'd love to just have my old hairline back. You don't notice any decrease in density?

Honestly, no: just the recession.
It could be also the so called “mature” hairline: a slight recession that sits there for a long time and does not get worse for a long time.
This is why I think you should go to a doctor who knows how to keep track of the evolution of your hair. He will take pictures of it (same lighting, same angles) so that it can be compared in time and action can be taken .

What worries me (and you can't see this in the pictures) is that I can see the hairs and the hair density near the corners of my hairline are noticeably thinner than the rest, which from my experience indicates they're on their way out. He did take a picture for my next appointment, and said he notices no miniaturized hairs on the top of my scalp but I definitely do notice a difference myself. Maybe it's because of my lifestyle (diet, stress, sleep)?
