Noob - Few Doubts About Hair Systems

Hi all, I’ll just give you a brief background about my situation...

I’m 24 years old NW7 with DUPA and my sides and back are quite thin, I luckily landed myself a beautiful girl at the age of 17 but unfortunately lost her due to my own insecurities with my hair as I have been shaving for 3 years, losing her gave me a kick up the *** so I’m going to uni in September and have ordered a hair system.

I have placed the order with a UK company and expecting it around April/May, it will be a lace system and will be fitted in their salon, I’m really excited for this as the pics on their site look amazing and always updating with new ones - they seemed like the best choice for me.

Now here are the doubts, I’ve been browsing the ‘impact of hair loss’ subforum and there is countless of depressing posts about there hair so it got me thinking... Surely if they’re that depressed about their situation why not do something about it? Which kinda leads me to believe they have tried it and it’s not for them? Due to maintenance I guess?

But for me obviously being NW7 with DUPA I would do anything to make it look like I have hair... If hair loss brings you down that much then surely you need to do something about it?

Another doubt is maintenance, obviously as I’m going uni 3 hours away I’m pretty much starting a new life so I don’t have the worry about the new hair, but maintaining it I guess is more of a hassle than I’ve been told? At the consultation I’ve been advised 2 systems a year and monthly clean etc, I’m not nessecarily a active person so would this be possible?

I just want everything to be cool, I understand it’s gonna be a massive lifestyle change for me but I feel like I’m ready for it especially after what’s happened to me recently, can’t put a price on feeling confident in my opinion.

Lastly as I have thin sides and back an undercut would be fine? Be able to hide the system at the back even though I have shaved back?

Thanks.

Hi Kebawo, welcome. I'm sorry to hear about your girl - that's very hard. On the other hand your reaction is healthy and positive - if hairloss gets you down, do something about it.

I would say there is an hour of maintenance for each detach/reattach, and you should count on detaching every 2 weeks. You might be able to stretch it out longer, but I find if you leave it too long the adhesive starts to break down and that makes for a messy clean up, so it's not worth it. It's a pretty straightforward process. After a few goes it becomes second nature.

Do you know if you will have private room at university?

I'm not sure I understand your last question, about shaving the back. Could you explain?

Hi Kebawo,

Welcome. So, the issue with an undercut, if it is shaved, per my provider, is that it is much harder to know where to apply the adhesive when there is no bald ring to use as a guide, and some guys have said they have problems with the glue getting on the hair of the unit, which then becomes a bit of a mess. You also can't expose the hairline that goes around the back and sides, since there is a visible edge, unlike your hairline. If you ARE going for a style like this (something I am also going to do), you can shave, and fade the sides, and leave just a bit of your bio hair to serve as a border. Then it is up to you if you want it faded, or you can have it "disconnected".

I hope you are happy with your results.

I am getting mine (hopefully soon), after 24 years of being bald.

Best,

Steve

I can't help you with the questions regarding hair systems since I don't wear one. But I can tell you that I'm fine with the idea of wearing one.

Other than that, the impact section consists of 15-20 guys agreeing on every topic. But I agree, you expect them to have tried it all but I believe some of em' haven't. I've read countless of posts about someone claiming he got treated like sh*t because of hair loss and yet shitting on hair pieces. I mean, if you really believe a head of hair gives you opportunities a bald head wouldn't I don't see the issue.
If it comes down to real hair vs fake hair there's no discussion and systems comes with obvious drawbacks. But if someone is really suffering from hair loss I can't see them being a big deal compared. I respect everybody who treats their hair loss, those who accept it or whatever. However, I do not understand those who spend 5 hours a day on hairlosstalk doing nothing but complaining.

You seem to have the right mindset and a good plan. Undercuts are the way to go if you have thin sides and remember to not go too high on the density. Good luck man!

Thanks for the reply, yeah it’s a private room ensuite!

Sorry about the last question just read it back and realized it made no sense haha, I guess it’s harder to disguise a hair system if it’s short? For example blending it in would be harder than having it long? It’s usually the quiffs that are being promoted but I don’t want that.

I seen this style you posted on a different thread and this is something I would like to have, maybe a lil bit shorter: https://www.hairlosstalk.com/interact/attachments/img_9528-jpg.81997/

Thanks for the reply, yeah I was thinking it could be a possible problem but doable, I will defo leave some bio hair there for a marker but as I have been shaving for the past 3 years I have only just realized how thin my hair has actually got, I still have the temples etc but it's so thin around the sides/back... Maybe it has something to do with wearing a hat 24/7 :D

Hope you're happy with yours too man, I was actually gonna have SMP done and was booked for Jan 30th and although the results looked good I just thought to myself 'Am I really paying 2.5k to still be... Bald' and seen an advertisement for these systems and been excited since.

Thanks for the reply, indeed man I just don't understand it, I do enjoy reading that forum though i'm currently at page 50 so still got quite a bit to go, I noticed 1 or 2 have tried it and don't like it but said if you're NW6+ then it's fine as it's last resort, in that case then I should be cool because I do feel it's my last resort as right now I can't look at myself in the mirror without a hat on as it disgusts me and I can't see myself having the confidence to find another girl until I get it sorted. I guess it's because most of them are like NW3 or lower so it's not that much of a big deal to them, whereas having DUPA and NW7 at 24 it's obviously a bad thing.

I suppose it all comes down to how committed you are to it, as I think it's obvious any 24 year old NW7 will get bullied once he goes to uni so in my opinion I 100% need this and i'm excited about the change but just had a few doubts.

Here is a pic from another forum where the guy has DUPA, so shaved his head. The second is of a guy w/o DUPA who also did it. So its doable.

Yeah i'm probably looking for the first pic mainly, little bit shorter and hopefully can get away with a tiny bit longer on the back/sides depending on how bad my DUPA is, sucks so much as I didn't think my back/sides were thin at all but soon as I started growing it for the hair system fitting it's obvious how bad it is... I'm guessing the first pic guy has a 0 on the sides so I'll ask for a 1/2 on the sides and see how that looks, then if it's quite bad then I'll go for the 0... Appreciate the pics man, when are you getting yours sorted?

Yeah same here man, ordered it on the 23rd Jan so I guess gotta add another 3 weeks, not too fussed though as I can wear a hat whilst at work so i'm pretty much in a hat 24/7, just worried incase something goes wrong and it doesn't come before Sept which will mess me up.

Hi Kebawo

If you have a private room and a bathroom you should be fine for the maintenance.

Yes, the shorter the system is the better the attachment has to be. For a very short look you really have to go for all lace - no poly rim or anything that would show through.
