Hi all. Been on finasteride two weeks now.

Went back and saw some old photos and realized that my temple area had some weird changes. Can anyone tell me why my temple area may have turned white/super light blonde back in 2018?

Here is that area today

Basically, it seems like only my right temple area is thinning, not my left. Has anyone seen a case where male pattern baldness takes forever to reach the left temple? I’ve got ZERO hairloss on the left side.

I’m on finasteride. Not sure if I should continue as i’ve got no thinning anywhere else.

Thanks.

I don't see any male pattern baldness, i think your exaggerating in taking a drug that is shrinking your prostate without even haven the need for it, but whatever your not the only one i saw so what can i say. Your choice, if you don't see any miniaturization or signs of baldness why would you risk it?

It’s kind of a precaution. My derm thinks it’s alopecia arerta or something of the sort. Figured I would try finasteride and if I didn’t see an improvement, try minoxidil or rogaine.

Well your derm is clearly more experienced than me that's for sure but you could get another opinion also, at least this is my opinion. I don't see it but it could be there definitely especially if an expert is seeing it. Good luck

thanks for your input. I’ll prob stay on finasteride for a bit longer just in case. I don’t mind how it looks atm, just worried it will get worse.

Btw; sorry how gross I look... 60 hour week at the hospital here :(.

No loss just paranoia.

You might have the tiniest bit of thinning but at 29 thats normal. If you do have thinning it certainly isn't visible to me.

Finasteride is not a good choice for alopecia areata. Minoxidil would be a better choice or copper peptides.

Lmao, true
its not a joke... Im a Norwood-1, But thinning heavily in my temples to a border Norwood-3.. I take finasteride for precaution and maintenance. In my opinion your hair looks better an more healthy now, than it did a year ago.. Btw coming from a Norwood-1.. hes not a Norwood 1.. hes a Norwood 0.

Update! 6231AEE5-C103-45C5-8FCB-5BD6700B4381.png

Found this photo from several years ago too 46877FEB-431C-4254-B304-63C0E2A2751B.jpeg

I suppose if it was Alopecia Areata it would have probably moved much faster yeah?

A small amount of temple recession. If baldness runs in your family it was probably a good idea to jump on finasteride just in case. You won't be on it for life. I can guarantee there will be better options in the next 20 years. Unless the world falls apart, in which case you'll have bigger things to worry about.

he will be 50 in 20 years I don't think it's gonna matter by then lol
