ok ... so im growing my hair out longer and I THINK !!!!! My sheds are slowing down .... not sure though but im close to the 5 mounth mark though ... so i mean shedding for 5 months staright is a lot .... it SHOULD start to slow down... One thing is for sure is that my hair got really thin RIGHT AFTER i went on the meds which means propeica SHOULD work for me since i'm a deffuse thining... i guess... idk

Anyway hair not NOT thicking up yet .... sad.....

I will post updated pics at the END of may ...

btw been on nizoral for 2 weeks now... don't notice anything yet of course... AND my doctor has now wriiten me a pres. for proscar which mean I SAVE MONEY !!!!!!! i'm happy about that though

So I guess what i'm trying to say is that I can't see how my currect hair should get ANY worse it should NOW start to get better since it was good to begin with at the start of treatment ... had anybody had propecia destroy your hair and leave you worse off ???

Liek I said it shoudl work good for me since i started early..if you look at my pics of when i started I was not iin bad shape ... so im going through a HUGE shed and it should stop and thicken back up MORE then what it was before..

What do you guys think ?

Ryan

like i said before the best of luck , im IN THE EXACT! situation as you been on propecia for 3 months and 2 weeks and it has gone worse since then ( im diffuse too) check out my thread here

why would i get on minoxidil .. my hair loss was not bad at all UNTIL i started the meds ... so it has to be due to teh meds .. if I get off of it then my hair shoudl thicken back to where it was before i started right ???? I don't think minoxidil is what i need at this point... like i said I should have not started because my hair was fine .. little thinning ... but now im on month 4 so im gona have to stay on it but if it keeps getting worse im not gona jump on minoxidil because my hair SHOULD return to the stage it was before starting the propecia..right ? ...

Its a gamble but i hope propecia has not made me lose hair and not thicken back up... idk ... this just flat out sucks ***...

Just keep taking, you will get good results from what I've seen on other ppl. You may just get back what you had when you started but it will be thicker hair.

Re: Irishpride86's Story - (22 / Propecia 4 mounth update PICS!)

mate, i'm in a similar situatuon. Although, i attribute it more to minoxidil then finasteride.

I started with minoxidil and 7 months in I added finasteride with the hope that the constant shedding from minoxidil would stop. In fact it beacme worse.

Then I quit minoxidil (after 1 year) and went solo with finasteride.

My shed has gone down considerably but I can't see any regrowth like you.

Someone said I need to wait atleast 3-4 months before I start seeing some regrowth since the sheds have just about ceased.

Irishpride, I gues ppl like u and me have no option but to continue with finasteride for more time...atleast we don;'t experiecne some of those dreaded sides that compel some ppl to quit.

Re: Irishpride86's Story - (22 / Propecia 4 mounth update PICS!)

Dude, I am in the same boat as you. I have been taking propecia for nearly 4 1/2 months, and my hair loss has only gotten worse. When I first noticed my hair thinning it was really mild and only in the back, now everywhere on my head is thin. The top and sides especially. I am thinking about buzzing it soon, and I just went and got blood tests done for my thyroid, but I have not gotten the results yet. I don't know what to do at this point, because my hair was never this bad before propecia. And my hair is a lot thinner, so its not like im shedding and getting stronger hair. I thought maybe my initial hair loss was due to a hormonal imbalance, and then maybe propecia just made that worse, but I don't know. I am getting really annoyed.

Re: Irishpride86's Story - (22 / Propecia 4 mounth update PICS!)

I would say I have lost maybe a little bit more hair. Its ridiculous, and I am beginning to think that there is another culprit besides dht. Like I said, I just got blood work done on my thyroid, so I will let you know how that goes. I also want to get my hormones checked and look into adrenal fatigue. The funny thing is this all started after beginning an intense weight lifting regimin with a 5000 a day calorie diet. I think that might have messed with my hormones, and now propecia is making it worse. My hair has always been dark brown, and now it is coming out blonde and my eyebrows are shedding and coming in copper colored. I think there has to be something else besides male pattern baldness f*****g up my hair so bad in such a short time all over my head. I have been to two doctors, one was a dermatologist and the other was a hair specialist. The dermatologist looked at my hair for like 5 seconds and said I was thinning and wrote me a prescription for propecia and billed be $150. The hair specialist was sooooo old and gave me all these facts I didnt need to know and then said I had lighting thinning. I just think that there is something elso goind on here, and I am thinking of discontinuind propecia to see what happens, I mean at the rate I am going right now for it to get much worse I would think there would definitly have to be something wrong besides male pattern baldness.

Re: Irishpride86's Story - (22 / Propecia 4 mounth update PICS!)

I thought your latest pic looked better, it undoubtedly looked better to me anyways? Did no one else think this?

I personally wouldn't jump off it just yet, you've got through the worst period of the drug now, I don't see why you don't keep going with it from here.

Yeah clearly you are stressed out and what not, but Propecia doesn't cause hair loss, you need to sort of accept that. The hair you are losing now through shedding is hair you will DEFINITELY lose anyways with drugs because it is susceptible to dht.
Hair doesn't instantly regrow after it sheds the old hair, it takes time.

I'd give it the year, if it doesn't work by then you know without a doubt. But if you quit now, and it continues to get worse, you will kick yourself for not giving the meds the time it suggests and you will be back at square one.

There is heaps of stories floating around of blokes who got freaked out after sheds, quit the drugs and saw how much worse it got and were left ruing the decision to ever give it up.

Anyways good luck with it.

It looks better compared to month four. I have said this before, I did not see the results i wanted to see in till month 7, some people take even longer than me.

Yeah better than month 4 I meant, not better than when he started, but I reckon it is on track to be. I'd keep riding it out if I was you IP86.

It's your call to make dude but i remember when between months 5-7 my hair looked like *** but a few months on its starting to look a lot healthy and fuller but once again you know your hair better then anyone else and how your progress is going, just keep in mind 12 months is the optimal time to give finasteride treatment a chance. Good luck on whatever choice you make and keep us updated.

Read the below article I found..... it may be my case .... I have been shedding for 5mon ths straight with no end in sight and it happend i sware within a week of strating the meds:
--------------------------------------------------------------------

READ BELOW THE ARTICLE

Hypoandrogenicity
This is a still relatively unknown phenomena but a small percentage of men seem to react negatively to the effects of the Propecia. In some men this can lead to an oily skin and an increase in hair loss. This is not normal and if you have experienced these effects from the beginning and they do not resolve themselves after a few weeks you should see a physician. Some men play it safe and start with a lower dosage like a half a tablet a day until their body adjusts to the Propecia. This approach should be discussed with the physician who prescribed the Propecia.

Shedding
Shedding is a term given to an excessive amount of hair being lost at once. While this is a very unpleasant experience, it is actually a very good sign and indication that the Propecia is working. Shedding occurs when many follicles are put back into the growth cycle at the same time. When a hair enters the anagen or growth phase the first thing that happens is the old hair is pushed out by the new hair that is starting to grow. Shedding usually occurs after about 12 weeks of treatment and lasts for around 4-6 weeks. After this initial shedding phase has occurred most men experience fewer and fewer of these and most often they go largely unnoticed. If you are going though a shed phase do not panic as it will most likely slow down and stop after a few weeks. If you experienced an increased amount of hair loss almost immediately after taking Propecia it is likely that you are experiencing a hypoandrogenic effect and not a shed. If this is that case then you should see a physician about possibly discontinuing the drug.

And the someone posted a response which sounds like me !!

gunner man, listen, i'm in the exact same situation as you. i know it's not necessarily comfort to you, but i, too, was on propecia for a little over 7 months and lost so much in my hairline and became diffusely thin all over. my loss was VERY minimal before propecia.

i quit just over a month ago, and i still think it's too early to tell any difference. but i CAN tell you definitively, the following are the changes i've seen after quitting: 1) morning erections have returned 2) more intense erections in general 3) mentally sharper 4) (most importantly) i'm seeing just a few new hairs come in in the front of my hair. i hadn't seen regrowth in months.

so look, here's the deal, get off the sh*t, save yourself some money and look into other alternatives... right now, i'm focusing on using anti-dht shampoos, taking lots of vitamins (including b6, zinc, saw palmetto, green tea extract, and others), scalp massages, and something new i've started (though quirky) is every night before i go to bed, i'll lie off the edge of my bed with my head off my mattress so i get can a rush of blood to my head. i know it sounds crazy as hell, but from what i've read, i think blood flow to the scalp is essential...

so i'm with you man. i'm so with you. propecia RUINED my hair. i'm the most depressed i've ever been in my life, suicidal in fact (it crosses my mind several times a day). this is the toughest, most painful thing i've EVER been through. it's a feat for me just to get myself presentable to the world everyday. i just wanna sleep and be alone right now.

let's hope some miracle cure is just around the corner. but in the meantime, save yourself some heartache AND money and get off that sh*t. i have no regrets in doing just that myself.

good luck to ya man, and keep me up to date. and i'll do the same.

-------------------------------------------------

Ok guys so what do you think i should do .... i need a vote form you guys or somthing because It's a make or break deal that I'm going to be making.

Now i;m alos goint to post a pic from dec 08... RIGHT before the propecia... tell me what you guys think.... has propecia destoyed me hair im 4 months into treatmenet and I want to quit..do you think I will go back to baseline ( liek i want)

BE HONEST GUYS !!!

Ryan

eee ok after just seeing these pics you were def thinning before propecia , maybe propecia shedded the weak hairs ( which where a lot of them ) and is close to regrowing them thicker ( every reacts diff) some take 3 months some take a year

maybe the thyroid issue was your problem, and if so you should get on meds for that. what did you doctor say?

Re: Irishpride86's Story - (22 / Propecia 4 mounth update PICS!)

Well I am afraid only time will tell for you. If in fact you do not have male pattern baldness and your hair loss is a result of your thyroid then meds for that should help, but make sure you ask for doctor for a med that doesnt cause hair loss. Some thyroid medications have hair loss as a side effect. But, if you do have male pattern baldness than it could go two ways. One, you did have hyperandrogencity and your hair could get better, maybe not back to where it was, but better. Second, you could continue thinning, and maybe the propecia was just slowing down hair loss. I feel you man. I got on propecia a little under 5 months ago when I first saw the signs. Now my hair has thinned out worse, and I cannot handle a full dose because I start to get gyno symptoms. I am waiting to hear about my blood tests because I also am thinning almost everywhere on my head with the hairs becomeing a copper blonde and my eyebrows shedding and becoming the same color. But, a lot of people have had the same symptoms to have their tests come back normal. Hair loss sucks, especially at our age (im 24). Best of luck, and hopefully we can beat this thing together, or at least halt it for a few years. Funny thing too, I am also Irish and my name is Ryan.
