is it a coping mechanism or are they genuinely just ignorant?
i have a friend who is thinning and is just about at NW3.
I've said things to him off hand like 'man i'm depressed my hair is receding'
and he has said things like 'don't worry, my dad is bald i'll probably go bald too'
it's absolutely mind blowing how he doesn't notice it.
I've also seen people online post and say 'is my hair receding? ' then attach a pic of their hair and it's extremely thin/obvious balding or NW3+
it's crazy. how do people not notice this?
I am in this situation. I have had a few relatives tell me about a visible bald spot recently, and I was aware of it earlier on. Why havent I done anything? If there was a safe topical that was cheap like minoxidil that could stop male pattern baldness dead in its tracks I think most men including myself would use it.
The issue is in real life right now its never this black and white. There are pros and cons to any treatment we have. Some of the risks are actually quite significant, and any number of years later you can get them. Whether its worth the hassle and risks of a life long drug is not always an easy yes for everyone else.
Lets pretend your friend said I hate hair loss, and I want my hair back. What would you tell him? The reality is you cant fix it anyways so his coping mechanism is probably just accept your fate. Its not a stupid thing to do.
