On my dad's side all my uncles are bald except one, and he has a full head of hair. He told me it's because he eats raw eggs (he's a weightlifter) everyday. Has anyone heard of this? I just slurped down 4, the consistency of them sort of bugged me and I gagged a little, but managed to keep them down.

Your message made me laugh :)

First of all, the chances of food poisoning on raw eggs is considerably higher than eating them cooked. I don't know what "high" means in this aspect, but I know that raw eggs are something to avoid. For example, mass produced mayonnaise is made with pasteurised eggs.

I have eaten raw eggs when I was younger and I know what you mean about the gagging reflex....

As for the science behind it... I presume, the cooking process destroys the molecular structure of some of its ingredients. So, eating them raw MAY have added benefits...

If I were you, I'd eat raw eggs only if I can be sure that they are reasonably fresh and from a reputable source.

You just have to be very careful with raw food stuff like eggs, milk (sales of unpasteurised milk is actually illegal in the EU), and meat.....

PS: What's that got to do with balding??? I don't know :dunno: .. I wouldn't think it makes a big difference.

One thing about eating raw eggs is that it disrupts the absorption of biotin....which is probably not good for hair at all.....

Allegedly it has something to do with protiens in the eggs that help your hair, but are destroyed at low temperatures during the cooking process. But I cannot find anything to back this up on google. But the person who told me this is quite a diet guru, he eats raw foods, nothing refined, etc. He told me that in countries where they have diets with high amounts of uncooked/unrefined foods there is less baldness. And Asia is an example and to some extent true. But I cannot find evidence to explain why.

As for the raw eggs, I believe they are healthy, as air cannot get into the shell, thus bacteria cannot survive easily. Also, eggs do not need to be refrigerated - that is a myth that I had trouble accepting at first, but I now know it to be true. (If you don't believe me, try keeping your eggs in a cupboard, or just sitting around on a counter for a few days - they won't harm you (unless they were already bad)). I keep my eggs in the same cupboard as my cereal, which always shocks people who are visiting me.

Not sure about the hair but they will do amazing things to
your muscle mass. At one time I was easting a dozen or so
raw eggs for breakfast over about a two year period and got
my body fat way down and muscle strength way up. This was
way prior to any hairloss so I'm not sure what it did to my hair.

Never had a single problem with bad eggs and you
actually develop a taste for them after a few weeks. The
best advise is to swallow quickly when you first start.

I ate 6 raw eggs a day for 15 years and never got sick; didn't help or hurt my hair.

Shall we discuss the fact that eggs are higher in cholesterol than just about any other food on the planet?

Eating one egg provides approx. 85% of the total daily amount of cholesterol recommended for good heart health.

Sure let's discuss it. Your body will produce less cholesterol the more you consume. It's sat. fat that forces the body to produce more than it needs.

I had my blood tested and my hdl was high and ldl was low - my numbers were considered exceptional by my Doctor.

Depends on the source. Battery hen eggs especially here in the UK are very dodgy.

Yeah but unless you have high cholesterol you shouldn't worry, if you do just use egg whites. Hell anyway, it's good cholesterol not something like a pepperoni pizza.
