Hello Forum,

Long time no see here. It’s been a while since I posted on the forum but just wanted to check in to ask popular opinion on potential side effects of aggressive scalp massage on those of us who have male pattern balding (and are on treatments). I’m just wondering if we should avoid having barbers or a masseuse give aggressive massage attention to the scalp because it seems like that’s going to cause some follicles to shed during the process(even women who have no hairless genetics will obviously shed some follicles).
I occasionally have this done and am wondering if I should stop worrying about it. Perhaps the increased circulation from the massage could even help stimulate some hair follicles to regenerate a little thicker..or at least not thinner?

Thanks!

Brad

I shall give you a good dick massage instead so you forget about your hair for just a moment.

Massage may loosen some hair strands but they would have fallen out anyways..
Massage is good practice .. but not the ultimate answer

I think aggressive scalp massages will probably do more harm than good as you're more likely to tear hairs out. Regular massaging I think can't hurt but I'm not convinced as the evidence just isn't there.  Maybe it helps a bit but its just not enough to overcome the suffocating effects of androgens.

Cardio is best for circulation better than a scalp massage. 100% it makes your heart pump faster so blood will circulate faster around your whole body and scalp and feed your hair. But you need oral finasteride and min or else it wont help.

I'd generally agree. It depends on the person, too. For those who have bare spots in the scalp, it may not hurt to be more aggressive. Aggressive massage / needling can break up fibrotic tissues and allow for hair to regrow. But in someone with mild hairloss, or with areas of diffuse thinning where there is still some healthy hair, it may be safer to be gentle with massage and use shorter needles, if any. Bare spots have much more fibrotic tissue.

In completely bald spots it makes sense to go hard. It really pisses me off how most mainstream Doctors and hair loss influencers are turning against microneedling. Probably because it doesnt make them any money! I've seen with my own eyes plenty of people who exclusively microneedle and got regrowth! There was even a kid on here quite a few years back who had aggressive loss and managed to regain a cosmetic amount of hair just microneedling and massaging, he documented his entire journey and provided pics. I forgot his name but you've been around long enough to know who I'm talking about.

Yep I have seen some great responders to dermarolling and massages that didnt even do anything else hardly - especially with vertex balding. No finasteride or minoxidil. You also have that group recently showing in mice and in human hair lab tests that irritation of the scalp signals release of fatty acids that stimulate the hair follicle stem cells to get things growing.
