BTW, try a little miconazole nitrate on the strands the minoxidil has grown. Two or three times a week. You will be amazed how quickly they grow.
If I remember correctly, someone on these forums told me "don't start putting miconazole on your head", I don't know why... Anything I should know?
Btw, I don't know anything about miconazole, what are the benefits of it? Is it something similar to Nizoral shampoo?

As I understand Keto and Mico are from the same family and do the same job. I did a lot of research and 2 or 3 times a week is fine. A lot of women use it to grow their hair quickly. Some guys put the minoxidil on first the apply the Miconazole. There have been reports of regrowth too, not just growth.

I haven't encountered any issues since using it. I have noticed accelerated growth. Rapid too. Give it a go and see what you think. Daktarin is something like £2.59 a tube at Asda.

Thanks, I might give it a shot.. I believe "Asda" is a UK thing, won't ship to Lithuania? Well, I'll see where I can order it online (I saw unitedpharmacies.co.uk has mico shampoos), or just try to look at my local pharmacies..

That was me, for the simple reason that you had only just started using treatments and it was probably worth seeing what you got out of those treatments, every additional item you add into your routine is additional effort, and it makes it harder to pin down what is working for you.

You may still get some really good results off the rogaine and finasteride.

If you don't then i'd consider looking at miconazole, it's just an opinion though.

Sir Chugalot makes a valid point. Miconazole is cracking stuff none-the-less and is really growing the hairs that minoxidil brought out. Some people report slight headaches but I haven't experienced anything.

Sorry, I assumed you had lived in the UK for some time as your written English is excellent.

Oh yeah, it was you, I just took a look, you've written that in my thread :)
I think I will take your advice and won't add miconazole now, as I see some regrowth starting with big 3 already (actually it's just from Min and nizoral for now).

On the other hand, having an additional new hair growth boost would come in handy  I graduate from college in July, so it would be nice to regrow as much hair as possible by then..

I was just wondering if I would use miconazole to help grow new hairs faster, then stopping it - would those hairs fall out after some time?

Also, how long this 30g tube will last me, should I get more than one?

Yep, that's it. Not sure how long it will last as it depends on your application. You don't use much though because you can really concentrate it in the area you need it and because it's a cream it doesn't run. I've used it a week, 3 or 4 applications, and I've hardly dented the contents of the tube.

I guess buying a couple of tubes is ok but you need to fight the temptation of using it more frequently as the quick positive results encourage you to do so!

Oh dear,

I took my first Finast (Dr Reddy's) quarter yesterday morning and this morning (around 22 hours later) I had pretty bad diarrhea. I've decided may not to take anymore for a few days, the the stomach settle and then try another quarter. If the same thing happens I guess I know it will be the finasteride.

I didn't hear about diarrhea as a side effect of finasteride before. Well maybe it's very rare...
Maybe after you are all good wait a few days, and then try 1/8th of the pill and if everything is ok go like this for a week or so and then see if you can increase the dosage to a quarter again. (your body might need some time to adjust)

Shineman, your regime has been quite similar to mine. I've been on Regaine and Saw Palmetto for about 4 and a half months now (swapped to foam from liquid after 4) and I bought some Daktarin for the Miconazole the other week (also from ASDA!) Got some Daktarin Gold for Keto and use Nizoral shampoo also.

Can I ask, how well do you think Saw Palmetto has worked for you? I'm unsure if it's doing anything for me, maybe i haven't been on it long enough. & how much do you take? I've been taking 900mg in the morning for the past couple of weeks but i think i might split that to 450g each morning and night. I've been applying the Miconazole most days (maybe i should cut down) but the only thing that's happened so far is more receeding of the hairline!

Also, I wouldn't worry about the finasteride shedding, i didn't even know you could shed from it, think there's more shedding from Regaine but you've been on that for enough time now. In fact, i'm more surprised you're not worried about the other sides of finasteride, which are putting me off from taking it.

When do you guys apply miconazole cream? I'm still hesitating if I should order it for a simple reason - I just don't want another application to be added to the routine...
As I understand it can't be applied just after minoxidil? (as it would probably interfere with the minoxidil?) So, does that mean the mico has to be applied somewhere halfway between minoxidil applications ~ afternoon?

Yeah, will try and cut it to 1/8th athough a 1/4 is already v. small!

During the week if I'm going to apply miconazole nitrate, I will tend to apply minoxidil only in the evening ( 1 hour before sleeping). The miconazole goes on around 6pmish and is left on and the evening minoxidil goes on top. I do sometimes put the regaine/rogaine foam on 10 minutes prior to the Miconazole. The foam dries very quickly.

I try not to put it on every day but it is hard to resist when you see the results! If I don't then I will apply some minoxidil around 6pmish instead of the miconazole.

ukmale24,

Sorry for the delay in responding to your post.

Yes our regimes do seem very similar.

Saw Palmetto - I take P*R*O*C*E*R*I*N (sorry I have to type it like this to get through the filter) version and have done so for around 6 moths. Don't think it's done anything re hair tbh although I suppose my hair hasn't got any worse so maybe it help slow thing down. I doubt it though. I did take three capsules a day and the bottle says this serving is 1500mg. On a postive, I'm pretty sure it has prevent colds and flu's as I haven't had once since taking it. I get a sniffle and I sneeze briefly but thats it. I used to get colds very very frequently indeed!! I've just reduced to one capsules whilst I give the finasteride a chance.

I also take the following vitamins:

H&B = Holland & Barrett

1/2 Zinc tablet. 1/2 because the P*R*O*C*E*R*I*N had zinc too.
Mega B-100 Vitamin B-Complex from H&B
Soya Lecithin (2 capsules not the recommend 3 capsules as on the box) - H&B
Iron + Vitamin C tablet (H&B too)
Cod Liver Oil (H&B)

I've now added 1/4 of Dr Reddy's Finast bought from United Pharmacies. Took my 3rd tablet today and all well. Nothing to report re sides. I think the diarrhea was coincidental.

Re the finasteride sides. I'm not too worried about feeling less horny and it will please the wife tbh because at the moment, even though I'm 43, I have the same 'appetite' as I had when I was 20 year old ;-)

I'm using a Galpharm 2% keto shampoo at the moment. £2.90 or something like that from Aldi. Bought two. I leave two clear days between washes though I do at least rinse my hair as I do cardio exercise at the gym daily (stopped the weight training!!!!!!). in between the keto washes I use a different shampoo. Usually Nisim but recently I tried Alpecin shampoo. Not impressed with the Alpecin shampoo but I do like the NISIM stuff a lot. I used nothing else initially and then I read about Nizoral and introduced that. A bit pricey at £15 though.

Yeah, I was gonna say, that stuff you take is just Saw Palmetto with a couple of extra supplements thrown in.
I got some Men's Health capsules from Asda, it has the standard vitamins, iron, zinc (152% RDA) as well as ginseng and pumpkin seed oil ...http://tinyurl.com/66yogzv it's pretty much the same as the skin, hair and nails formula but has more ingredients.

fair play, i still don't think i'd have the balls to go ahead with finasteride, i'm gonna just wait it out and hope a better topical anti-androgen comes by in the next few years. if i was not planning to have any kids, i'd go ahead with it, but i'm too young to make that decision, lol.

Nissim shampoo sounds good, but expensive. I'm also using the Keto shampoo (Nizoral) once every 2 or 3 days; if it needs washing in between there, I use a Naked Shine shampoo from Boots - 97% natural with no harsh chemicals. I did use Regenepure for a while but I'm not paying to keep getting that imported.

I put some Keto cream on last night too, may do that about twice a week. And I've started putting on Miconazole cream everyday after putting my Regaine on in the morning.

The best of luck!

I think the keto and the micon cream will do the same thing. They are from the same family. My only advice is to fight the urge to put it on daily as t may dry the scalp. I noticed the difference in length overnight on a number of small hairs on my hairline. I'm seeing new hair coming through too over the week I've used it. Great results and I have the urge to use it daily which I am fighting!

The Men's Health caps from Asda look pretty good. Does it have Magnesium? It refers to manganese but not sure this is the same.

One thing I've started to do is to open up a saw palmetto capsule and mix the powder with my normal hair gel. It inevitably dries on the scalp (dht blocker???) but more importantly it gives the hair a thicker appearance. Nice!

I need to find a new shampoo when the Nisim runs out as I can't really sustain the cost. May try your recommendation.

Re finasteride, day 5 and so far so good. No sides at all.

From what I have read, Saw Palmetto is less potent finasteride anyway and a lot of people experience exactly the same sides. You may want to bear that in mind. Taking the Saw Palmetto may have help me with the finasteride and getting my body adjusted to it.
