Hi guys,

After lurking for a few months I’ve decided to join the forum! Hopefully you’ll be able to help me.

I’ve always had a high forehead, but as you can see, my hairline is receded, with a prominent ‘U’ shape. The hairline itself goes in further in certain places.

Now, I’m sure it looks really bad, but there are things that suggest I won’t go bald. Firstly, I have had this hairline since at least 12 years old. I don’t have any clear ‘before’ pictures, but they all show the same hairline and forehead. Secondly, the hair does not seem to be thinning on top. I do lose a LOT of hair in the shower, but my hair is about 6 inches long, which I’m sure is a big factor. I didn’t experience this earlier this year when my hair was short, but with the same hairline.
I have been tracking the hairline for about 6 months, and it has stayed the same in that time. Finally, NO male in my family is bald - dad has a full head, as do my brothers, granddads and uncles on both sides. However, my dad’s hairline is straight, with a big forehead.
The shower cloggs up pretty badly with hairs, I must say. However, my hair is long - about 7 inches curled on the sides, and 6 on top (down to my mouth), and I wait 3 days before washing my hair. Hair comes out if I run my fingers through, but I rarely find them on my pillow.

So, what do you reckon? In England, we can’t see a dermo instantly. I’d have to see my normal doctor and get a referral, or see a hair loss specialst, who I’m afraid will propose a transplant straight away.

Thanks for all your help!

Have you noticed you hair receding? Looks like you have a naturally high hairline (widow peak)

I’ve always had a big forehead, but the picture that shows my temple recession really shocked me. I have some pictures of me from a few years ago I can upload, but they’re not very clear.

The worst quality picture was in October 2012, the other two October 2013

These pictures date from March 2016 to August 2017. I don’t know if this helps, but I have always had dense hair, but it’s rather thin up top (ie, there’s lots of it but it doesnt curl like the sides, and doesn’t easily stand up).

Looks like you never did have a straight hairline but it has no doubt receded some. Get on finasteride. I know you aren't even 18 but what's the worst that could happen? Permanent errectile dysfunction, crippling depression, debilitating brain fog and DD breasts? I know what I would choose.. And the answer would surprise you.

You don’t make it sound great AnxiousAndy! I don’t mind taking finasteride, but really what I want to know is whether I’m going to recede further, or thin out entirely in the future. If I am I’ll do everything to keep it as it, but I’d rather not take an expensive medicine (or tablets of any kind) every day if I don’t need to.

It’s the uncertainty that’s worst I think!

Undoubtedly male pattern baldness. You have quite marked recession with noticeable miniaturization at the temples. If you're 17 that's fairly aggressive. Your options are minoxidil and nizoral to buy you a little time and finasteride for your 18th birthday present.

Nature wants you bald

Wrote this in other topic:

Hi Filip, sorry to hear all this. Start looking for Low Level Laser Therapy. Although way of treating hairloss is not new in the world of hairloss it is not given the attention it should get because of not so effective tools providing the therapy (laser comb etc.).

I regained my hair when I was 25 to when I was 16 without hair loss with a LLLT helmet. I was a 2 on the so called Norwood scala.

Go read on overmachogrande website. Didnt buy his helmet though. Make sure you read upon it with your parents. Its completely safe and way cheaper than a whole life on medication. Above that, it is safe (no side effects, except for better and healthier hair). But most of all, science shows LLLT is the most effective way to combat hairloss.

Give it a try. If you have questions. Feel free to ask.

Note: I am not trying to sell anything. Only want to help. I think thats really important. See my earlier posts and threads. Been here searching for a cure for a long time. Since a year now I dont worry about my hair loss anymore Since I have none. But i feel obliged to help since I know how it feels to lose your hair

Thanks for your opinions! Do you think I should wait till March (when I’m 18) to start finasteride, and use Rogaine in the mean time? Is Rogaine really needed, and can I stop it once I start finasteride?

@doyle11 I’m 17 in one and a bit months. Would you reccomend rogaine for until then, and then swap to finasteride? Or just wait for until i’m 18, as I don’t really want to do both minodoxil and finasteride

Why not do both? Swallowing a pill takes a second and applying minoxidil a couple hours before bedtime is not difficult.

I would not recommend finasteride until you are 18 at the very least as it can impact development.

Minoxidil/ rogaine is generally very well tolerated. Minoxidil for people who have lost their hair recently can be quite effective even for temple loss. In the long run finasteride is incredibly effective at stopping hairloss from progressing. Id try minoxidil and nizoral and when you hit 18 add in finasteride. That said, finasteride is your most important part of combating hair loss

You are clearly losing your hair.
I am so sorry.
However: what are you doing on a forum? Don't you think that your young age deserves a visit to a dermatologist?

I think @michel sapin is most right, but there does seem to be lots of minutarisation - although the hairs are all very black? @nick533142 how do you know my hair density is down? It doesn't seem like that to me at all.

However, I thought about taking a picture of my crown, and this has worried me too! What do you think? My Regaine is on the way, but does the crown need it too? This is really worrying me now :(
