Firstly regarding Saw Palemtto yes I agree that there is not a clinical study for hairloss treatment (as this product cant be patented nobody is going to do one either), however there has been alot of trials for Prostate treatment using Saw Palmetto.
This seems contradictory. You just said nobody will do a clinical trial for saw palmetto because it can't be patented. Why are there hundreds of clinical trials on Saw Palmetto for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia?

bonric said:
It has been established that 320 mg of Saw Palmetto is more effective than finasteride on DHT levels in these trials
Yes, more effective at reducing the size of the Prostate. Just because it does this does not mean its more effective at affecting serum levels to a significant enough amount so as to help hair loss.

bonric said:
(it works for the prostate) so logically it should do the same for hairloss
You can't use this logic with drugs. The prostate is different than the hair. It is not logical to make the statement "If it works for the prostate, it must work for the follicle on the scalp." You could only make this conclusion if trials successfully showed that to be true, and they have not. I sat literally 2 feet from Angela Christiano as she pulled out one of the biggest saw palmetto hair loss study data results from her locked filing cabinet (the results that nobody has been allowed to see, and were not published). She told me point blank, the saw palmetto did nothing, and they had trial data and even photographs over a period of 6 months of the follicle. It had no effect. It didn't work. They did try. This is a big reason why I am so adimant about SP not working, until some more convincing data comes out.

bronic said:
Now as I believe that most of you are fairly well versed in this industry you would be aware that finasteride starts failing in 50% of cases after 5 years of usage.
The Merck Propecia 5 year trial data does not show a 50% failure rate at the 5th year mark. Here are the actual percentages:

http://www.hairlosstalk.com/newsletter/ ... le&sid=111

"data presented at the 59th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology. The new study showed a difference of 277 hairs in a one-inch diameter circle of scalp in favor of men treated with Propecia for five years (n=219) vs. those who received a placebo (n=15). Baseline hair counts of all men at the start of the study averaged 876 hairs in the one-inch diameter circle. "This study provides new, long-term scientific data that Propecia helped the majority of men with predominantly vertex male pattern hair loss keep the amount of hair they have," said Keith Kaufman, M.D., senior director, Clinical Research, Merck Research Laboratories."

Another article for you to review on this:
http://www.hairlosstalk.com/newsletter/ ... le&sid=110

bronic said:
This has not happened with our patients so we can fairly well assume that it is the Saw Palmetto that is maintaining the results.
I do not believe this to be good logic either. This is a huge assumption that cannot be accurately made.

bronic said:
With taking into the equation that 5 mg of finasteride is showing problems with causing more aggresive types of prostate cancer
The study did not show that finasteride CAUSES aggressive cancer. It showed that those WITH aggressive types of cancer already, can end up agitating and accelerating it with Finasteride. Further, it had NO effect on those with cancer types that were not considered aggressive. Finasteride does not cause cancer, of any kind.

bronic said:
This is one of the reasons that we can have a 7% minoxidl with .01%retinoic acid is that it is manufactured one bottle at a time by a qualifeid pharmacist with a degree in compounding. Please ask your local pharmacist to produce the same and you will see what sort of costs we are talking about.
Dr. Lee offers the same product, in effect, in Xandrox, with RetinA for $39 a month, and that's after his markup. Id be willing to bet that it costs him roughly $20 to produce.

bronic said:
Now with the clinical studies on the minoxidil, there is clinical trials listed in the American Dermatolgy Journal that by using retinoic acid it increases the absorption of minoxidil by three fold. The problem with normal 5% strength is that a high level of it sits on the scalp. The trials that were performed on a hair count basis are available for viewing at any of our centres.
I wasn't asking about trials for 5% minoxidil with RetinA. I was asking about trials on your 7% solution with Retin A. You claimed that *your* solution had data behind it but Dr. Lee's 12% and 15% did not. If you're talking about trials showing increased absorption with RetinA then yes, Dr. Lee has the same trials to point to that you do.

Unfortunately, none of your replies gave an acceptable answer to my questions as to why you're overcharging for something people can get somewhere else for cheaper, with the same clinical data.

Therefore the criticisms people gave regarding cost versus benefit are in my opinion still valid.

Here is the situation. You guys have good intentions, I do believe. You're not promoting bunk products like Hair Genesis or Nisim or Fabao. For that, thank you. But the problem is, as Dr. Lee himself found, you can't set up a physical shop in a shopping mall and call it a "Hair loss Treatment" center, simply because there isn't anything *WORTH* charging for. Ive thought about doing this many times here in San Diego. I thought - "I run a huge site on hair loss. Maybe I can put together a little store that people can come in to". But it took me all of 15 seconds to realize that the cost of doing so would outweigh the profit. What consumers need is *education* and *information*. This can be obtained online for free, on sites like these. Aside from that, neither you nor I have really anything to offer anyone. Once they've been empowered with the information, they can just go to the store and treat their own hair loss quite cheaply. Thats just the way it is unfortunately.

After searching I have finally found the horrer story this australian man went through with Ashley and martin

Link

http://members.tripod.com/~hair4me/aus.txt

"THE EXPENSE OF IGNORANCE"

Let this tale of ignorance and poor judgement be a warning to anyone in
Australia considering approaching so called local experts for the treatment of
male pattern baldness (male pattern baldness).

Australia is clearly one place on the globe where total stupidity and greed
are the primary
Ingredients for setting up a clinic to treat male pattern baldness patients, In the two years now
that I have been treating mine I have come across some total dickheads that
have expected me to pay for their time & ignorance.....

Because Australia has some very wanky defamation laws I have little choice but
to remain anonymous to avoid being served writs by those who I criticise in
this document, fortunately the internet provides a place of freedom and self
expression, allowing the truth to be published for all to see.

"WE ARE ALL INDIVIDUALS"

My stats I here you say.........

31 year old Caucasian, a normally high hair line of fine dark blonde hair, there
is a history of some male pattern baldness in my family, but several males do not exhibit any.
In particular my father at the age of 78 still has (what appears to me) an
intact head of grey hair (lucky bastard), I also have a brother 4 years older
than myself who is showing the advanced stages of male pattern baldness. He ironically started
suffering the general symptoms around the same age as myself, effectively
providing me with a yard stick to measure any future progress by.

"A BACKGROUND HELPS"

My problems first began back around 96 when a change in my frontal scalp density at the temples
became noticeable, before this my scalp seemed fine, Girls I met
from time to time even commented upon how fine and soft my hair was before this. Now the only
comments I were getting centred around the humour of my colleagues at work.....
time to do something..... but what??????????????
I had just turned 30 and decided to look at all available options, unfortunately
for me at the time I had no internet access and hence had to rely upon the local
medical scene which would prove in time to be my first big mistake.

In the end I had four possible courses of action:

(1) Drug therapy - this scared me the least and hence it held promise.
(2) Transplants - The idea of someone carving up my scalp made me sick.
(3) Wear a wig - Another thing I couldn't bring myself to do.
(4) Do nothing - (not for me) If I go down it will be fighting all the way.

In the end I chose drug therapy..... gee whiz huh?, bet you couldn't see that
one coming. The question was who. where, and how???????... time to pick up the
phone book and check out where help is available - my second big mistake.
I flipped page by page through the section titled hair, after passing through
every hair dresser add in town I came to the hair restoration section which
featured many slick adds ranging from wigs and implants to transplants and drug
treatments. The phone book scared me in a way too, there were many photos showing
guys wearing wigs..... guys having hair sewn to their heads, transplants, ....dam I
felt like treatment was worse than loss.

Several phone calls later and a promise of a free consultation to "expertly
determine what's best for you" (how could you turn that down?) I decided to
visit a place called "Ashley & Martin" (A&M). Later I would regret this this....

Interestingly at the end of the phone conversation with A&M I was told to
bring a blank cheque with me. Gee they must really wana help me bad.

Two weeks prior to my appointment I also visited my family doctor who simply
replied "your aging.... get used to it", with this comment echoing in my head
I ignored his only suggestion of transplants and promptly left. The remaining
spare time till my A&M visit was then spent reading up on medical journals and
anything else I could find that might provide some more plausible treatment.

It was two days before my visit that I finally came across the word "Minoxidil",
using this word as a search key I found information that at last gave me some
possible hope for keeping the turf up stairs. Eventually I learned of Upjohn's
Regaine (that's what it's called here in Oz) 2% minoxidil solution. The stuff was only
available on prescription here so I looked for another doctor local to my area,
and who was around my age..... I figured a younger doctor would have a slightly
more understanding view upon what I wanted to try and achieve.

Three days later I rushed with excitment down to a chemist (= Drug store in US)
with my prescription in hand to get my first bottle of this magical fluid.
The chemist looked at the prescription and then at me, my brief excitement
gave way to embarrassment as he spoke aloud to his 16 year old female assistant
concerning the product to be ordered...... this was to be only the first
instalment of the terrible feelings that plague many an male pattern baldness sufferer who seeks
treatment. At $55 US ($75 Aust) the 2% solution was not cheap, but I had high
hopes it would help my condition by at least stemming the tide of damage.
I came back to collect the solution the next day.... she handed it over in a
brown paper bag, it made me feel like I was buying some porno mag.

I hurried home to make my first application of the drug. I figured with this
and my A&M treatment things might improve in the future.

"NOT WORTH THE BUS FARE"

The day for my first visit to A&M had come.... by now I had been applying the Upjohn formula for
several days, checking my head's progress in the mirror hoping for some sign
of a loss reversal, none so far. It was 10am in the morning and I rolled up to
A&M's local premises anticipating some kind of medical type building populated
with staff in white coats using medical terminology like "Minoxidil", in reality
it was a rather small sub let section of a 2 storey building with a weight watch
centre next door and an employment agency below.... great I thought, while I'm loosing my scalp I can drop a
few pounds at the same time and get another job while my esteem is so high.

Like a secret agent on the job I tried to slip into A&M un-noticed, but bumped
into the female receptionist from the employment agency below as I made for the
stairs.... dammm

I entered A&M and looked around..... I saw

..... trendy furniture.... a clock/radio blaring out rock music.... a table with a
pile of magazines.... a couple of Wemen in their early 20's wearing extremely
short white uniforms, one with her boyfriend sitting on the desk. Not exactly
the "professional" medical type environment I had expected, more of a put-off
to getting treatment really than anything else.

I walked in and explained that I had an appointment, after which I asked if
they use minoxidil in their treatment... the response "I'm sorry but I'm not
qualified to answer that" did nothing to build my confidence in the place.

Interestingly the statement "I'm sorry but I'm not qualified to answer that"
was to become the basic reply for all and anything I asked..... ignorance is
bliss (as a uni lecturer once told me), particularly if you just want to take
people's money and give stuff all in return.

Eventually I was greeted by a dude in a suit who led me into his office. I sat
down as he brought over a light equipped magnifying lens to look at my scalp
with. I was proclaimed to be balding on the crown (in reality I wasn't) as well
as at the temples (this was true to a point but not in the manner I was told).
At this stage I was introduced to their 4 month treatment program for a mere
$2400 Aust dollars. This program involved the use shampoos, vitamin treatments,
and a home made 5% minoxidil/ret A solution - which was so thick and greasy
you could fry chips in it.

These items were expensive too, a 200ml bottle of their home made shampoo was
$12!!!!!, the 200ml bottles of the 5% minoxidil solution cost $200 each!!!!!
(Aust dollars) this meant that the minimum cost of keeping your hair - sorry I
mean attempting to keep your hair would have cost around $1000 a year for minoxidil
plus the other bits, this is a minimum remember folks, it does not include the
the $50 price tag on each of the vitamin tablet bottles you also had to buy.

Anyway - back to the story...... after being told about their program and that
it was my only hope for the future I was offered a small discount for signing
up right away, also I brought up the subject of finasteride, this new drug I
had heard about on the news the week before. It only took them about two
minutes to shoot it down in flames proclaiming that my testicles would "shrink"
and that my general health would deteriorate with the use of this witch doctor's
pill.

Finally I was led out the back where some photos of my head at various angles
were taken along with a questionnaire that enquires why I want to save my hair
and who pushed me on the decision - hell, like I just thought it might be
something to do when I'm bored!. After the photo session I was led back round
to the front counter where all the over-priced crap was wrapped up fish'n'chips
style in paper..... it's weird because it was fairly obvious which dudes were
going to A&M in that building cause you'd see them all walking out with wrapped
up packages under their arms...almost sad really.

Well that was the end of my initial contact... now began the treatment program
that cost me a fortune and delivered F**K all.

When I think about that first day I felt sorry for some of the other first
timers I saw in the waiting room... several were really balding badly, much
worse than myself, and based on the serious medical articles I have since seen
concerning hair loss, these people were almost beyond drug related due to how
far their scalp damage had progressed prior to being able to get any treatment.
In the end they were given false hopes and lies - and financially bled into the
bargain.

Sooooo I drove home...... them I looked at all the crap I'd bought and read
the instructions concerning their patented treatment plan.

"LET THE GAMES BEGIN"

Every morning I'd take a couple of the tablets and rub the fish'n'chip oil into
my scalp before going to work. By lunch time the suff had dried - and glued my
hair together. Each night before bed I'd shower and use the shampoos,
antiseptic treatment plus the acid solution they called "presol" to remove a
layer of skin of my scalp, a very painful process in it's self. Finally I'd
rub in more fish'n'chip oil and then retire, waking next morning to a stain
from the solution on my pillow because I was too tired to stay up for 4 hours or
so to let it dry.

But this was not the worst problem, the product they called "antiseptol" which
was some kind of scalp disinfectant, caused severe chemical burns to my scalp
that lasted for 3 weeks. My scalp would ooze oil and blister from this solution
causing great pain. I went back and asked to get my money back for just the
antiseptol because I could not use it, they refused (suprise suprise).

I ceased using this stuff and cleaned the toilet with what I had left (which
was 90% of the bottle). I then went and fronted up for my first treatment
session back at A&M - from memory I think you get 12, but I'm not sure cause I
never went back for further treatment after the initial visits ran out.
The treatments would alternate.... one visit you go there and they would rub
fish'n'chip oil in your scalp and then massage it in, the next you'd have some
vitamin gel rubbed all over your head and a humidifier was then used to make your
follicles pores open up and allow all those great vitamins in - Christ!.

After using up my visits they took some more photos, game me another
questionnaire to say I was cured and then tried to convince me to continue
ordering more minoxidil solution from them.... like hell I would.
In their eyes (kept mostly shut) I had made a remarkable recovery in 4 months,
any real doctor will tell you that success in the hair growth game takes years
and not months.

I walked out of there (now 2.7 years ago) and never went back.

"KNOWLEDGE IS POWER"

Having liked my wounds both physical and financial I decided there must be
some dam place I could look for information on how to treat this affliction.
Initially I looked through medical books in libraries and from friends with
only minor success, nothing but blurbs concerning the minimal results of 2%
minoxidil solutions.

One day while net surfing I just decided to do a search on "hair" for the
hell of it..... I as amazed by the amount of info I found. No big deal, but most of the info contained on several sites directly contradicted each other, only serving to confuse me more and introduce further distrust in those offering solutions to my moulting process.

Persisting with my surfing eventually led me to two sites, namely regrowth.com and minoxidil.com, the first because of the wealth of information and chat forums, the second because of one thing, the site did not make any outrages promises of success using their products, plus they listed medical journals and papers to backup the medications sold. I decided to bite the bullet and examined their product pricing.

WOW!, these dugs were around a 1/4 the price of the same items sold in Australia. Figuring it was worth the risk as the cost was so low I ordered a day/nite pack and some proscar, commencing treatment as soon as the stuff arrived. From time to time I would email the site's doctor, Richard Lee and ask him questions, which he'd happily answer, including my concerns over criticisms of his products.

Well it's now 2 years since I switched to using what I believe are one of the best cost effective selection of products on the net and my results?, well at the very least I am no longer progressing closer to a basket ball, instead I have had what seemed like dead hair slowly progress back to what it used to be like. One VERY important point, don't believe what many internet sites say, hair restoration is measured in years, NOT 6 months. Every once in a while another hair becomes terminal, and in the end they all add up, time is the key here. Only about a month ago I started on Dr Lee's 12.5% minoxidil cream, with the increase in minoxidil I'm looking forward to improved hair response, but only time will tell, and again I'd say a year or two.

bonric said:
It is good to see so much interest in this discussion. I will attempt to answer all of the concerns.

Firstly regarding Saw Palemtto yes I agree that there is not a clinical study for hairloss treatment (as this product cant be patented nobody is going to do one either), however there has been alot of trials for Prostate treatment using Saw Palmetto. It has been established that 320 mg of Saw Palmetto is more effective than finasteride on DHT levels in these trials, so logically it should do the same for hairloss. We have been using both of these products together for over 8 years now. Now as I believe that most of you are fairly well versed in this industry you would be aware that finasteride starts failing in 50% of cases after 5 years of usage. This has not happened with our patients so we can fairly well assume that it is the Saw Palmetto that is maintaining the results. Also with regards to Dutasteride, the manufacturer Glaxo has already made the announcement that they are not making one for the hairloss industry. So it seems that we are going to be stuck with a dosage format that is to strong for hairloss. With taking into the equation that 5 mg of finasteride is showing problems with causing more aggresive types of prostate cancer it is not wise to take something that is even stronger than finasteride at the dosage used for prostate enlargement. So in saying this we are currently in the process of putting dutasteride into the minoxidil to see if we can create a product which will stop DHT in the scalp but not effect the DHT anywhere else. (another 2-3 years it will be available).
With regards to onselling medications the only product that we dont make is Finasteride. This is still under patent until the end of 2005. You can not make Finasteride extemporaneously (made from scratch one bottle at a time from a pharmacist). This is one of the reasons that we can have a 7% minoxidl with .01%retinoic acid is that it is manufactured one bottle at a time by a qualifeid pharmacist with a degree in compounding. Please ask your local pharmacist to produce the same and you will see what sort of costs we are talking about.
Now with regards to costings, to start with we are not a charity we will make a profit or else we wouldnt be here. We do however need to spend alot of money on advertising, doctors, pharmacists, dermatologists, consultants and other office staff. We also have to have all our centres paid for. This is not cheap and unfortunatly you guys pay for it. We will however continue R & D on getting better medications, we will continue servicing our clients, educating them and taking photographs of their results.
I suppose it is abit like being a personnel trainer, sure you can go out and buy the gym equipment but are you going to get the same results. I would think not.
So please by all menas continue with buying cheaper products from online pharmacies based out of Mexico but dont denergrate Ashley and Martin by suppling better products, servicing and continuing on R&D where the pharmaceutical companies are not even researching better products as there is not enough money in it compared to other medications for other diseases.
Regards
Richard Bond

Richard,

This post contains so many mistatements, misunderstandings, and lack of scientific rigor that it gave me a massive headache! Fortunately, HairLossTalk.com took on most of them and in his usual rigorous fashion.

I will just take on one;

Where have you seen data which suggests that the issue with increasing minoxidil's efficacy is due to lack of absorption? Huge assumption, which from personal experience is certainly not borne out (just ask anyone who has put a bit too much on there scalp about their side effects).

Moreover, assuming that absorption and concentration (5% to say 7%) actually makes minoxidil work more effectively, where is the data that suggests that in the long run, this makes any difference in the progession of male pattern baldness?

Candidily, you are dealing with one of the cheapest drugs in the male pattern baldness marketpalce. Trying to doctor it up and mark it up is a nice business idea but one that not likely to make it past HairLossTalk.com!!

Re: Saw Palmetto, you logic of "if it works on the prostate, it works on hair," is just hilarious.

Biology 101 anyone??

It's not a scam, as they offer proven treatments. It is, however, a total rip-off that seems to prey on your ignorance to drugs that work against male pattern baldness.

I can get what they offered you for less than $300 a year.

By the way - if you're going to attempt to appear professional, at least give your writing a once over before you post.

The Internet now has numerous retail products that claim all sorts of wonderful results. Hairdresser’s are informing us of reps going around trying to sell products, which destroy a demodex parasite which lives inside the hair follicle. (This demodex parasite does exist but it does not cause any problems, it is just one of many parasites that live on us). The best one that we have heard recently, is that a low-level laser can block the hormone DHT (this is not possible).

bonric where did you see that? if your talking about the lasercomb.. i dont think i saw any claim that it does "anything" to the dht...

So essentially, you have correlation (which I don't believe) and not causality in regards to Saw Palmetto.

Your speculation on Minoxidil suddenly not being sold in 12 months is laughable. I'll still be here next year and you can hold me to that. The fact is Minoxidil is an over the counter drug in it's topical form and minimally dangerous.

Furthermore, we all know the study of Finasteride re: cancer and we all know the results. And they are exactly what HairLossTalk.com posted. If you get a life-threatening tumor, Finasteride could potentially make it worse. It's not a lock, and it didn't cause the tumor.

Strange that a treatment that has been around for years would suddenly pick up a new pricing scheme for shipping. Forgive me for thinking that, well, you're totally making that up.

Again, I'll still be here on 2/9/05 so feel free to bump this thread on that date. I know I will.

Re: answer for axon

bonric said:
With regards to Finasteride you stated that it could make it potnetially worse, even on this level we cant risk it. I will give you another thing to think about. Lets assume that you are 45 years old and have been using Finasteride for 2 years now. You have been getting it of our doctor. You see your doctor and he/she performs a PSA level which comes into normal range, you havent told your doctor that you are using finasteride. You continue using finasteride for another 5 years and getting a PSA level every 2 years. Now the levels of finasteride that you have been using could mask any irregularities with your PSA levels and as you are aware this places you into a risk area for prostate cancer. You get prostate cancer and end up suing our company for negligence. So this is why we only use Saw Palmetto after 45 and if you look at our website you will see many patients responding to treatment well. I am still open to see any clinical studies to show that this is a placebo effect.
Now with minoxidil being a dangerous goods, you missed the point and that is on postage or couriers. It has a high level of ethanol which brings it into a DG level 3. This means that it has a flash point of 65 F. Due to this it can be shipped or freighted but you need to use special carriers to do this and it costs an absolute fortune. The pharmacists in NZ were told that they would lose their license if they continued to flout these regulations and the same will happen all over the Western World. So you will be able to get it from smaller countries having dodgey online pharmacies but you will see your customs will start to pick it up and you personally can receive hefty fines. This is the way it will go so by all means stock up.

Goodness your logic is so poor. If SP addresses prostate issues by lowering DHT (as does Finasteride) then it is logical that your concerns about finasteride and prostate cancer appy to SP.

You have to do better or we will all start laughing at you.

Proved wrong

18 months on and you can still get minoxidil online!
And I dare say that all the new competition in this time has made it cheaper!

As for the costings of our treatment I believe that $140.00 per month for 7%minoxidil + .01% retinoic acid, Finasteride, Saw Palmetto (320 mg) and having the option of coming in for free laser every fortnight an absolute bargain. Along with this photos every four months and its bulk billing to see the doctor.

So why was I charged $3400 for 8 months when I visited Ashley & Martin? That works out to $425 per month - a lot more than the $140 you are quoting - are you trying to lure more clients into your clinic in order to rip them off?

More on this

bonric said:
Now here is the kicker which you guys will have to deal with. Presently yes you can buy modified minoxidil's or generic versions through the internet but let me tell you a fact that you will not like. Due to its high ethanol levels it is classified as a dangerous good. Already the pharmacy sales of generic minoxidil fron online pharmacies in New Zealand has ceased (NZ was one of the biggest sellers of 5 minoxidil in the world). Now just recently I tried to ship a 1 60 ml bottle to South Korea for a trade show and it cost over $500.00 to get it there. The same thing is going to happen throughout the world as courier companies are aware that it is a DG and will not risk it now. So I suggest buy up big now, in 12 months time you might not see anyone selling minoxidil over the internet.

If this is the case (and 20 months after it was written it doesn't look like it) Then this would also be a kicker for Ashley and Martin also as they ship their modified Minoxidil from Australia to their clients in NZ.

Hello Mr Bond,

Thanks for your informative post.

I am a former A&M customer from Sydney, Australia. I spent $3,400 for an initial 8 month supply of the RealGROWTH programme plus “electro-treatments†and then a further $1,920 for three packets of Proscar and 6 bottles of 7% Minoxidil. This reorder was supposedly an 18 month supply of the RealGrowth programme, but as you would be aware the Proscar would only last 12 months (if broken into quarters as instructed) and the Minoxidil would last 12 months at best. Further, no hygiene, saw palmetto or other products were included.

After realising that I was being overcharged by A&M, I did extensive research and I now purchase my hair regimen from within Australia, through fully authorised channels for a total of approximately $750 per annum. This is for 3 packets of Proscar, purchased with a script, through my GP and 12 bottles of 5% Minoxidil through my chemist and my shampoos of choice (previously medicated, now organic). Breakdown below:

4 x (3 x 60ml packs) of 5% Minoxidil ~ $400
3 x packets of prescribed Proscar ~ $240
Shampoos at the most ~ $100

TOTAL ~ $740

(Please keep in mind it’s actually significantly less than this as I no longer use Minoxidil twice per day)

Now, given that A&M charged me $5,320 for what amounted to effectively a 20 month supply (but hell, lets make this 24 months) – that equates to over $2,500 per year for the RealGROWTH system. And please note I RECEIVED NO HYGEINE PRODUCTS OR SAW PALMETTO WITH MY “18 month†reorder. Granted, the stuff let me keep my hair, however, my current regimen is still doing the job 2 years on. I’ll even admit I grew to like the people I met at A&M in Sydney. This doesn’t detract from the pure fact that my wallet was rather hard done by.

Perhaps you could explain to me again, how this equates to such good value? Perhaps you could also explain to me why I was charged $1,920 for a year’s worth of product, without hygiene products or saw palmetto whereas you state it costs $1,580 for the full RealGROWTH programme?

Some time ago I decided to let the way I was hoodwinked go – like you said – I understood that A&M was a business that needed to make profits. However, after reading your post and the apparent disparity in what I paid for an “18 month supply†of the RealGrowth programme, I’ll be looking for answers.

Please feel free to PM me if you feel anything I have raised above is in any way misleading, libellous, slanderous or otherwise. I have taken the courtesy of not naming the “Hair Technicians†or Doctors I was treated by at A&M, but rest assured I have their names and all my invoices filed.

Ashley and Martin

With regards to comments made about Ashley and Martin which some would be considered slanderous

The purpose of this post and any of my previous posts is not to slander Ashley and Martin but to provide facts from my experiences and observations of Ashley and Martin and to warn any potential new customers of what they can expect if they visit an Ashley and Martin hair centre.

I have put this same post in three different threads about Ashley and Martin as bonric has done with his last post. Here are the links to all these threads …

Here’s what to expect for anyone who visits an Ashley and Martin Centre – you’ll get a hard sell from a Salesman who will offer you an $800 discount if you sign up now – the cost will be about $3400 (after the mythical $800 discount) for an 8 month program. Before you start the program you have to see a Doctor in order to get a prescription for Proscar & 7% Minoxidil with 0.01% Retinoic Acid (The Proscar & retinoic acid is what requires the prescription). Now you would expect that since they call themselves a “Medical Hair Centre†they would have a Doctor available to prescribe this – but they haven’t. I had to see a Doctor outside of Ashley and Martin, get a prescription, and then give it to the Salesman at Ashley and Martin. What sort of behavior is this from a “Medical Centre I really wonder how many Doctors are employed by Ashley and Martin as during my time as a customer there I certainly didn’t meet any Doctors employed by Ashley and Martin. I’m guessing Dr Terri is the only Doctor at Ashley and Martin and this somehow gives them the right to call their other offices in Australia, NZ & the UK - “Medical Hair Centers “. Maybe bonric could answer this – exactly how many Doctors do Ashley and Martin employ?

Also during one of my visits to Ashley and Martin, the salesman tried to sell me a laser comb for $1500 NZD (about $1000 US) and blatantly said – “this is cheaper than buying one on the internetâ€.

If males spoke more openly about this condition and referred patients in then we could pass these savings onto the patient. This is why I like this forum.

I also like these forums and one of the many good things about it is that you can warn others about places like Ashley and Martin. I’ll admit that their treatments do work – however you can get the same results with a bit of knowledge and will save you at least 60% of what Ashley and Martin charge. Also, as a former customer, no way in hell would I refer anyone to Ashley and Martin. I simply don’t believe Ashley and Martin would pass on any savings to their customers.

Earlier in the week I signed up for A&M's 8 month plan. The lady who signed me up just asked for $50 deposit as I explained I just paid for a flight to London earlier that day. I signed a couple of forms their gurantee and what I was going to get and went off on my merry way not thinking anything was a miss (except for the male pattern baldness). Then I stumbled upon this forum (you would think I would do this first). Now I want to avoid paying the $4k to do their 8 month progame. I assume I'm not the first 20 something yr old to go in for a free consultation be told the sky is falling and sign on the dotted line. Anyone have any advice of how I can get out of this and not doing their expensive programe. Many thanks.

Yeah fly out to london permanently!!

In all seriousness, just don't go back, the worst they can do is threaten to take you to court and u can just claim your broke they'll probably just let it go - another scare tactic trying to lure innocent customers in.

Yep - take hellohello's advice - just simply don't go back. It'll probably cost them more to persue the money through legal action and they won't bother. Whatever you do - don't pay these rip off merchants another cent.
