Are hair pieces & hair systems REALLY that bad?

I wear a full lace piece and only a few know that I have told. I look at it this way,people are fake, women have fake everything. I keep my hair always looking good and if someone finds out I doubt they would really care. If it looks great how can they say anything? Men that see women women with fake hair and boobs know they are fake and don't care and women that see men on steroids ,everyone knows they are on drugs but still think they are attractive. So if you look good people will forget and not really care. I shaved my head for ten years and looked good with it shaved but I was a NW6. People always joked about my bald cue ball,now all say is wow you look great. Is it fake? yup but it looks better then most people's real hair!
Are you using glue to attach your hairsystem to your head or you use clips? I just wanted to know if there is any long term side effects of using glue directly on scalp skin..

For those who aren't familiar with the adhesive strips or tape, from my short-lived experience I felt this form of attachment was considerably more "user friendly" than the adhesive itself. Particularly for a young guy who was/is experiencing seborrhea derm. I wore a partial system (very light weight) and removed/washed it daily on average. With this in mind I have no personal knowledge how well adhesives strips or tape would work on persons wearing a"full system" and who don't wish to remove/wash it nearly as often. Wigs have come a long way, the real secret to the art of illusion when selecting and/or even customizing your own system is to have a hair system that has less or equal density to you preexisting hair and furthermore it's ill advisable to place it past your original hair line. The key is striving for a realistic appearance (maturing hair line, thinner density,etc.,) and a perfect hair line does not typically fit into that operative. Merely my personal taste on the subject.

Glue and a hair piece/system/wig left on for prolonged periods, and especially if you are regularly exposed to outside warm temperatures, can often become extra tacky or consequently more messy and time-consuming to remove and clean off both your hair piece and scalp. At least this is what I personally dealt with when initially using it. Partly why I preferred the adhesive strips. Unless you are hyper skin sensitive or allergic to the glue itself(which is not common), there are no known adverse side effects that I am aware of for long term use. All the best.

I just wanted to explain the situation I'm in..
Well back about 9 years ago I was really upset about my hairloss.... At first when I spoke to close friends about it they just told me perhaps I was being overly paranoid .. But as time went on and on random people started saying horrible things about my hair thinning.. I became more and more depressed about it.. So I took the plung and went for a hair transplant treatment (I didn't even know systems existed at that time!). The transplant was quite invasive- massive scar at the back of my head too. Without boring you guys too much with my long story- the bottom line was I waited and waited and waited for a decent result to grow through and nothing special grew through. I was left with extra hair that was so low on density that it was pointless. I had asked for the transplanted hair to cover my crown area as well as my residing front hairline but both areas density was horrendous where it actually seemed my crown area was untouched!
I kept complaining and writing letters to the company who performed it for me and after numerous consultations they realised they had messed up and offered me a free second session of transplant... So yes I went ahead with it and guess what..? Still absolutely pointless.. Since then the only thing that was made me feel more better about my insecurity is concilers ... I've been using this for two years and surprisingly quite happy with the results.. But there are some difficulties with it.. like applying it when your not in the comfort of your own surrounding or leaving black marks behind! Also my hair is continuing to thin so I know this is not a long term solution.
About 10 months ago I happened to hear about hair systems and almost immediately griped my attention. So I decided to go to a company who specialises in hair systems.. The consultant was very friendly and explained a lot of details about the system and aftercare. But I feel like over the years I have really been through a lot and sadly sometimes feel that I don't know who I can trust. Hence why I'm on this forum..
I really need you guys opinions and advice please..
The company is offering me a lace system with a package for re- grooms. They advice me to have two systems and have monthly re-grooms (system removal / cleaned/ reattached).
Does monthly removals sound right or is it too long?
I asked them how long do systems last? They say if I alternate the two systems every month they can last up to 3 years.
Does this sound right? To me that seems a bit much?
They said every few months if the system sheds hairs you can have hair added to the same system???? Is this true guys?
I'm not made of money and if instead I'm having to buy new systems every few months from this place as opposed to every 2-3years I won't be able afford this..
The other few questions I wanted to ask was... Does wearing a system make you feel hot?? Reason why I ask is because I usually get hot very easily...!?

No, generally lacesystems dont make you feel hot. What type of weather do you live in? I mean what is the summer temperature/maximum temperature? Is it hot hot and humid? And I dont think that there are any systems out there that lasts for 3 years when you use tow. May be lace systems will last for a maximum of 9-10 months if taken care of.

I DIY and all my costs including pieces, haircuts and products come in at under £440 a year. These other places they drag you in regularly will rack up costs of thousands. Avoid them and DIY.
It can seem a little daunting at first, but its really not that difficult.
Personally, I recommend removing and reattaching every 10-14 days. How often you do it will depend on the bond you use, your lifestyle and your own body chemistry. 1-month is too long.
If you get a good quality system and look after it you will get 8-months at peak. Rotating between two should give 16-months; possibly more at a push.
Pieces do shed and you can add to a system, but usually people replace it.
A lace base is very ventilated so you should not feel hot. You can shower sweat and swim in it without any problems. Its so lightweight you wont feel a thing.

1... I remember when I got my first piece around 1977, my wife had to drive when we left because it was so emotional for me. I kept pulling in the side mirror of our car to constantly check it.
There wasnt a mirror or shiney object that I would stop and check my self. I used a clip in the back, on each side, and one in the front to hold it on. And yes you do constantly think about it.
No , ive never had it fall off , and yes it can be a hassle but you learn to live with it out of vanity. I have never considered being bald. I think most men look better with hair. Black guys look better bald
than white guys in my opinion. If you can accept being bald, its probably better and cheaper! I just couldn't, considering I grew up a rocker listening to The Beatles and the Stones! And being in a rock
band myself.

3... If you still have hair on the sides and some on top, grow it out a little bit and then get the new piece installed. Your hair will be cut to blend in with the new piece.

My current future wife has never seen me without it in over 5 years and we have yet to bring it up !

you can try very thin "skin" systems - invisible to the touch OR just be honest and fess up - nothing wrong with a good head of hair

I'm at around a Norwood III-IV and am 25. I really wouldn't mind being bald at 40-50, but not in my 20's
So with that being said, I want to take the plunge. There aren't really any 'established' places besides Farrell and Hair Club for Men --- which I heard were nightmares. Now I have a few questions and would appreciate COMPLETE honesty:
1) First and foremost, does it suck? In other words, are you CONSTANTLY thinking about it? I knew the glue/tape is supposedly very secure, but surely you've thought of it falling off, has it ever happened to you? Is it really a huge hassle?
2) What do you do, if you're like me, and you're super-active and sweat a lot. I mean if I go for a workout at the gym, does it "ruin" the piece of I sweat a lot? Can't I just shower and not have to remove, change, alter it?
3) How do you deal with your friends/roommates/SO's? Do they know, do some know, do any know? If I live with three roommates, is it inevitable they know?
4) This might be the hardest question to answer or the easier one and that is...is it worth it? Is there any advantage of a piece (besides cost) over a surgury?
5) What would you recommend a beginner do or start?

6) How did you guys in your 20s (30s even) deal with it?

1. A proper bonded hair system will not fall off. Different people think about it more than others.
2. A hair system will not be ruined by sweat, you can exercise as much as you like. Lace systems are better for this as the skin systems have no holes. Your bond time may decrease if you do lots of exercise.
3. It depends. You can choose who you tell. When you reattach you will inevitably need to use a bathroom to shower. If you don't want flat mates knowing then make sure you have a lock on your bathroom door.
4.It depends on the person. For many it restores confidence and you get to lay into a lot more women which otherwise you wouldn't be able to (I'm talking about the shallow 18 year olds that don't look at bald men despite how attractive the man may be). It could be beneficial inasmuch as just allowing yourself not to worry about hair loss and seeing yourself with hair. The advantage over surgery is that it's not permanent. You can throw it away at any point and grow out your own hair. You have the choice. Surgery involves scars (FUE minimal scarring; but scarring nonetheless). Also hair systems give you full density whereas transplants can rarely return you to baseline. You have the advantage of having perfect hair (for the first week at least; then hair pieces will start to dry and fade).
5.It would be recommended to get a professional to make you a template. Then send this template to a reputable company. North West Lace are good; so are Hair4all. Order two systems and get them cut in by a hairdresser. You can then made modifications. For example, maybe your hair system is too dense. You simple ask for a reduction in density next time and so forth.
6. You have to be very brave to go ahead with it. Some people consider it weak but I think it is the opposite. The way I see it you shouldn't let your 20s go by worrying about hair and hair replacement gives you the hair. I recommend you go on hair replacement forums as well as you can get advice and it's nice not to feel alone if you go down this path. Final bit of advice - don't take it too seriously. Take it for what it is - a cosmetic solution to hair loss. If someone says you have nice hair you can tell them it's a wig - you might find the shock and disbelief on their face priceless

I often to say to posters, try it, whats there to lose? I mean if it works for you it will transform your life as it has mine and many others. If it doesnt then nothing has really been lost and at least you have found something out. The only condition for those thinking of wearing is patience...research, try, refine...as with many things you will improve with experience.
