Please keep in mind that the people posting about how harmless finasteride is are the ones not currently having issues with the drug.
I will say this,
as a guy that keeps under 10% bodyfat - most of the time under 8% and has lifted for muscle half his life, finasteride was awful.
I took it at the height of being in peak shape. I first noticed tenderness and a small lump in 2007, a month after starting. I got off finasteride but only for a few weeks before I decided I could eventually counter the effects with something anti-estrogen or letrozole.
I just want to say that, long story short, I was on finasteride from about late 2007 to 2011. I stopped and started a few times. I felt it was slowing my hairloss (I have thick hair but receding hairline).
I noticed hairloss early in life when others thought I was crazy - about 2004 or so.
Anyway, my lumps never went away.
I tried letro, nolva, etc. anti-estrogen drugs. The finasteride screwed up my testosterone. My body went from that vascular hard look to becoming kind of flat and smooth.
My diet was the same, training, etc.
I eventually had to have surgery in 2012. I had the lump removed. It cost me $5, 900 with a plastic surgeon. It still isn't perfect and it's a reminder to stay away from finasteride.
I have heard so many horror stories.
If it makes national news regarding sexual dysfunction, it doesn't take a genius to realize that it would link to hormones in the body - hormones like dht, estrogen, etc.
I knew back in 2007, when starting, what my thick head of hair could eventually evolve into. I obsessed about it. I would build my body but I couldn't stop coming to forums like this.
When I quit finasteride, I took rogaine until last year. Although not obsessed with my hair enough to come to forums, It is still on my mind.
I gave up rogaine due to skin effects and it wasn't working that well.
I now have accepted defeat and probably will not have a cure before my hairloss becomes really noticeable.
I have that strong forelock like Jude Law. up until this year, I could get away with a few moments of styling because I still had strong enough hair in the corners to level out my hairline.
After this year, I would say people will eventually realize the balding.
With that said, finasteride/propecia will still never go into my body to try and halt my hairloss.
