Took my first pill today. Cut my 5mg Loniten pills to 2,5mg. Will take once daily. If it doesn't do much I will increase to 5mg daily but we'll see. No weird feeling in the body what so ever.

Also interested to know other people’s results and side effects... had not even considered oral minoxidil until it was suggested by a hair transplant surgeon I had a consultation with.
He noticed my scalp wasn’t in great condition and though the Minoxidil foam I am on could be contributing. He told me that I would probably not have side effects so it’s definitely tempting to give it a go. I just need some maintenance before diving head first (pun not intended) into surgery.

I started taking 1.25 mg/day yesterday. I have 10 mg pills (the only ones I found) so using my pill cutter was a bit difficult. No side effects so far.

I have been taking oral minoxidil for nearly a year, between 10mg and 20mg, i found topical+dermarolling to be superior on my crown. I wish oral worked better on my crown, less hassle, but it doesn't.

Questions for people using topical for years then switched to oral:
1. Did you get a big shed? If so, how long did it last?
2. Is oral more effective?
3. Are the sides more noticeable with oral than topical?

Thanks!

I'm back on 5mg oral minoxidil now at week 5 so far so good. I had taken it a year ago for 4 months but had to stop due to other medical reasons but now back on it again. I experienced dramatic regrowth at around 3.5 months last time and I can already notice some improvement again. I've been on finasteride for 20 years with decent maintainance but slowly lost ground. I've dropped finasteride to .5mg a day for the past few months due to me being sick of taking it for so long. I've used all sorts of topical minoxidil in the past for years and it didnt do anything really noticeable.
One thing I noticed with oral minoxidil is once again the first couple weeks I had increased heart rate and fatigue but that has since subsided and feel fine now for the past few weeks. I really think oral minoxidil is far superior to finasteride. Once full thickness is back at 3-4 months I will reduce finasteride and use zix instead.

Why would you quit finasteride if you manged to stay on for 20 years when zix of all things is your replacement?

I don't feel as good taking finasteride as when I'm off. Good point though I think I'll opt for topical finasteride before zix...I forgot I'm getting it compounded. The topical finasteride takes months to compound where I live.

Where do you buy the oral minoxidil?
Online pharmacies such as alldaychemist or inhouse,as far as ive heard they always deliver. But im still questioning the possible problems such as post office seeing the content inside.Maybe you could also get prescription from hairloss specialist or surgeon but im not sure.

Hey guys, coming up on 3 months on oral minoxidil and I'm not sure what to think. I take 2.5mg daily and I've gotten some decent regrowth but I'm still consistently shedding. I had a BAD 2 week shed when i first started, which has sense subsided, but now I'm back to normal shedding again with my hair quality overall feeling worse. That said, I can see the some regrowth and I'm growing hair everywhere so I know it's working. I cant take finasteride because it has the opposite effect on me, so I'm also scared to try dutasteride. or any other anti androgens. I can't up my dosage because my blood pressure if already pretty low and can't risk getting into the 50s (low 70s before OM, now low 60s). is there anything else anyone recommends I try? Any advice is much appreciated.

Try caffeine supplements 3x times a day.

Up to 400mg per day is considered safe for average person. Either drink coffee which is around 50mg-90mg per cup or caffeine capsules in 100mg. I have caffeine 1hr before taking oral min. I dont recommend taking at same time. As they both increase heart rate.
If you notice any side effects then dont continue the caffeine.

Caffeine has been shown to increase efficiency of minoxidil. Likely through sult1a1 sulfotransferase

Also reduce any foods that contain Quercetin, orange, citrus and asprin as these inhibit su1t1a1 sulfotransferase
