Tonight, I take the step that I have feared for 5 years, the thing I have dreaded since first I learned the meaning of the words "alopecia" and "dihydrogen testosterone." Tonight, I shall deliberately introduce finasteride into my body.

I feel both relief and fear. Fear that I'll get awful side effects, depression, brain for, erectile dysfunction, fear they'll never get away. Fear that it won't even work. Fear of a return of the gynecomastia I suffered in my teens but grew out of.

I also feel relief. The internal debate is over, I'm taking my "leap to faith" as Kirkegaard put it. I'm putting my bet solidly down on the side of a brighter future. I no longer have to argue back and forth with myself about taking it. The decision's been taken, the debate is over. I'm finally doing it, come what may.

Being a complete paranoiac, not only have I gotten into an every-day weight-lifting routine I intend to keep, not only have I started DIM and moved to the highest advisable dosage, I've opted to go for topical instead of oral finasteride.....let's see if it does me any good.

So funny that this little bottle will mean so much.

I'm so full of emotions right now boyos. Tonight could be my ruination, my salvation, or just my meh. I don't know anyone here by there real name, but it's so funny how I feel free to share this with you my total strangers rather than with my closest family and friends. Wish me well guys, and if things don't turn out right in this world, I'll meet ya on the next one, and don't be late.

"dihydrogen monoxide"?

Hey man good luck. I saw your other thread and your Norwood is similar to mine. I'll follow this thread keenly.

I'm completely on the fence about finasteride. It's f*****g torturous, not a single day has gone by since the age of 23 that I haven't pondered hairloss.

Recently it's really taking its toll. Maybe I should stop being such a pussy. I salute your bravery man.

So that's minoxidil and finasteride combined into a foam? Where do you source it, and what percent finasteride does it contain?

Thanks.

LOL thanks for catching that, autocorrect on my phone (dihydrogen minoxide is a favorite joke of mine). That's what it is, it has two other compounds in it as well for good measure. The label says .05% percent, not sure how many mg that translates to in pill form. I get it custom mixed from Athena pharmacy in Tennessee, through a hair transplant doctor I consulted with. How old are you now?

Haha I like that joke man.

Hm and what compounds would these be? I was thinking about just dumping a few finasteride tablets into Kirkland minoxidil, though I do have a (possibly irrational) fear of woman coming into contact with any residue. I'm not long thirty-three now, my frontal area is soon to form the dreaded island, ugh. I'm thinking it's got to be now or never.

My doctor told me she can compound me a topical so I tried it, 3 months wasted and I think the alcohol in thentopical was damaging my scalp.

Sorry to hear that. I've been using topical minoxidil for years though and there's alcohol in that, so I doubt this will be any different.

I use minoxidil too it's like 2.5 years, if I can offer you any advice it's trust in what works, topical finasteride has been around for years, yet we don't have one success story from it.

The compounds are tretinoin and latanoprost, two compounds of dubious effectiveness treating alopecia.

Just LOL at people who are afraid of taking finasteride.

Blows my mind.

Once your Norwoods start progressing you will worry more about every follicle than the 1/1000 chance you'll end up a mental case from a single tablet of finasteride.

I've cranked my body full of way heavier drugs and I'm still alive and kicking.

It's like half you guys aren't even trying.

My life was ruined for two years by Levaquin, another drug that's also supposedly "safe" with side effects that go away after use, so my trepidation are more than natural. I understand what you're saying but your arrogance and haughtiness is the type of thing that turns people off to empirical approaches to medicine and onto quackery.

How did your life get ruined by an antibiotic?

Even if I got hit by lightning, I would try not to believe every thunderstorm is therefore out to get me.

People are welcome to indulge in quackery. Science says finasteride is highly safe with known small risks based on the tens of thousands of men who have taken it in RCTs for prostate and hair.

Pretending it's poison that will destroy your life if it even touches your skin is nuts IMO. I'd call that quackery.

Forums tend to attract neurotic people in general. Hair loss tends to make people neurotic as well. No coincidence to me that 90% of the people online who say "finasteride ruined my life" are guys who took it for hair, not guys taking much higher doses for their prostates without a second thought.

If you guys aren't willing to take even the smallest risk to save your hair, then just go bald. It's the safest and easiest thing.

I understand where you stand and maybe you're right. Maybe some dont think the "risks" are worth getting the hair back.

Im not taking finasteride. But if i would have a problem with my prostate and that would affect my ability to piss etc than i would def take it.

Good luck OP, hope this will work for you

As for the never ending finasteride debate, i've been on it for 13 years, and sides didn't get to me until 10+ years.

Now it seems that i cannot tolerate this drug for much longer, depression, tiredness, low libido and decrease in erection strength.Saying that this drug is safe is bs anyway.Between 18-30 everything was fine, now sh*t hits the fan, and i'm not a "neurotic" hypochondriac, i'll even advise people to get on it, because it's pretty effective for hair loss.

Nope, still on it, too afraid to quit and loosing all benefits, that's a double-edged sword.

If you quit it, you'll loose all hair maintained pretty fast
