I got a transplant done about 18 weeks ago and I don't see any growth. Not one hair has sprouted. It looks the same as day 1. Should I be worried. Other people have growth at this time.

You are on vitamins only? No min or finasteride? Sometimes docs recommend to use minoxidil to stimulate growth after a hair transplant.

At 18 weeks, it is still normal to see little or no hair growth. Many people do not notice new hair until months four to six, and real improvement often appears even later.

Unfortunately traction alopecia can be permanent as the follicles have scarred over. On the bright side if it's truly traction alopecia you wont lose any more hair. No growth in 18 weeks isnt particularly unusual, I'd wait until 24 weeks to assess. Where did you get your transplant done and how many grafts did you allegedly get?

I got it done at Padra Clinic in Toronto and they did under 9000 hairs they don't quote by grafts

Most grafts are between 2-3 hairs so let's say you got 8000 hairs, that's around 3500 grafts. That makes sense your grafts haven't came in yet as more trauma leads to slower growth. Definitely give it more time.

Thanks. I see about 50-100 baby hairs growing I think where I had the transplant. Is it normal to have such little growth? And I'm not 100% certain they are from the transplant. They are very thin but getting longer

Yes that is normal. New hair starts off fine then gradually grows in thicker, especially in transplanted hair. Little growth is normal in such large hair transplant sessions. Your body can supply only so much blood so larger hair transplant take longer to see full results. I think you will be fine, just take some pics and post them soon please

No more hair has been growing and I'm at 5 months do you think this is a failed procedure?

I asked the clinic for pics and they said they can't provide it. My hair looks the same as before surgery and I'm two weeks away from being 6 months. I'm beginning to think it's a failure

That's devastating news, I'm so sorry. Theres still the SMP and Hair system route, both are viable options.

He had traction alopecia so he can live with hairline recession or get a better transplant from a better surgeon.
At 18 weeks, I wouldn't panic yet. This stage can still be part of the "quiet phase" for some people where not much visible growth has started. Even though you see others posting results around this time, growth timing can vary a lot from person to person.
Usually, noticeable growth starts picking up somewhere between 4 to 6 months, and for some it can even be a bit later. The fact that it still looks like day 1 can feel discouraging, but it doesn’t necessarily mean the transplant failed.
If you still see no change closer to the 5–6 month mark, then it might be worth checking in with your clinic, but right now you’re still within a range where delayed growth can happen.
