I've seen praise for Revivogen on this site, but I'm reluctant to use something so expensive. Is it reasonable to think sunflower oil, which also has linoleic acid, could be as effective, considering I'd apply it more liberally?

Well, I also wouldn't want to be involved with a woman who's a basketcase of insecurities.
