I started finasteride alittle over a week ago now, but i still drink about 13 units of hard liqor a day and smoke 8 cigarettes a day, other than that i eat healthy and work out. Do you think that the smoking and drinking could hinder any positive effects of finasteride?.

It’ll make your baldness worse and faster.

Plus you should quit for your health... male pattern baldness is already at increased risk for heart attack and stroke. By smoking you are basically guaranteeing it

Definitely from my experience. If I get drunk and smoke that night, then go to sleep, when I wake up, there are lots of hair fall on my pillows and my hair looks greasy when I look in the mirror. This doesn't happen when I don't drink alcohol. Smoking also is proven to decrease sex drive and penis shrinkage from what I read.

I have no idea but I chain smoke cigarettes and am a borderline alcoholic ( due to bad depression and anxiety )but I go to AA. If it does hinder finasteride's effects I'll need a miracle to stop smoking and drinking because I need that sh*t to stop me from losing my mind.

Ahh sh*t man, i know its bad for my health but alcohol is hard as f*** to quit, i know this is a stupid statement but my family members that were smoking and drinking still have a full head of hair, compared to those that didnt lol, why is that?. Also is there any chance that i can reverse any possible damage caused by the smoking and drinking if i stop? .

It is a vicious cycle though i must say, i feel bad about hairloss, then i drink, then i feel bad about drinking because it can cause hairloss and the cycle repeats itself lol.

f*** I drink at least 6 drinks a day. I did manage to cut back to a couple packs a week though. Coping with this makes it even harder to stop. Shouldn’t finasteride a benefits outweigh the costs of sh*t habits though?

Probably but who really knows? I wish finasteride worked as good in practice as it does on paper!

No, it really won't!

Smoking is good for cancer cells. It helps them divide and multiply.

Keep doing it!

There are plenty of people who smoke and drink a lot and have full heads of hair and plenty of people who juice daily and do yoga and meditate and lose hair.

While smoking and high doses of alcohol cause a host of health issues and can upset your hormonal balance, there is no evidence that it increases the rate or frequency of male pattern baldness.

Smoking definitely does and drinking excessively I believe can limit circulation in the scalp and dehydrate you and by effect your scalp and a bunch of other sh*t. Smoking for sure but drinking modestly doesn’t hurt.

Yeah but unless you have strong *** hair genes, drinking and smoke excessively will play some role in accelerating hair loss even though it won’t necessarily be the main cause.

I don't think it's going to make any major difference, but it's of course best to stop smoking, try switching to an ecig or something. I drink alot so i have no business telling you to cut back lol

You would think it would accelerate it but I do not think we can say it definitely would.

Most of my hairloss is on my hairline so idk if it is because of the alcohol and cigarettes or dht. I am going to be increasing my finasteride dose to 1mg now , trying to be as aggressive as possible against my male pattern baldness as i can. I will keep you guys updated on any potential side effects or gains during this time .
