Why Don't We Perform A Dht Blood Test Before Taking Finasteride?

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering why don't people test their DHT levels before taking finasteride?

I searched a lot and couldn't find it recommended anywhere.

I mean if DHT levels in blood are low then taking finasteride is not gonna help and may even cause erectile problems.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Because it is not really meaningful.
The dht levels fluctuate throughout the day and also your whole argument is dubious. People with low dht levels might have a lot of androgen receptors in their scalp and still go bald ,also one could argue that people with low dht will take a smaller hormonal "hit" from taking finasteride as they probably rely more on testosterone for their male functions, so they might not experience sides. Personally i only believe that it is worth monitoring your free testosterone levels , if they fall you ll probably have issues with side effects

dht levels are not reliable at all, along with free testo (it should be calculated from shbg and albumin levels)
but yes, an hormones panel would be a very good idea before starting

People have better things to do during their day. Like spending 3 hours masterbating.

I’ll add you’d be better off testing Prolactin and Estrogen as they are more directly related to common sides.

I did a full baseline panel before starting topical Finasteride. And the numbers most correlated with my sides consistently were High Prolactin High SHBG, and increased estradiol. My test and DHT stayed about the same.

not responding and about to try Dutasteride topically, had a similar baseline panel done.
