Castration stops hair loss in its tracks because it reduces DHT by over 95%. Finasteride reduces DHT by 60-70% and stops baldness for most people. Environmental factors affect DHT too. It's inconsistent to believe that finasteride can play a role in altering the progression of Androgenetic Alopecia, but other things that affect DHT levels can't.
