Im 22 and when I shower and shampoo (twice a week) at least 30-40 hairs fall out...Is this normal? Someone told me it could be a thyroid problem. Thanks

Probably not thyroid.

If your hairline is not as thick as it was, or if you can tell it's thinning (feels thinner on top than it used to), you're going to want finasteride. Right now.

OK thanks, I am just scared of the side effects, long term use, and birth defects...
Should I see a derm before I buy finasteride?
Also my hair has been veyr itchy and oily lately? Part of the problem?

So what? :dunno:
Until you see real evidence on your head of thinning/recession dont care about how many hairs are falling. Women, children 50yr old NW1's.... all of them get hairs in the shower, pillow, hairbrush ect.

Well it is receding and very fast in the last year. I know stress college is a factor but this is scary.

I don't think I have male pattern baldness, I think I just have a receding hair line.

Some people say the rogaine foam helps with a receding line, is this true?

What exactly is a mature hairline? My father is bald and my moms father had a receded hairline so I think it will happen to me...I would love to say this is just a natural hairline, and never worry about it. But I don't think it's that easy :(. Thanks everyone so far.

Nearly all mens hairlines receed after 18/19... Even when guys dont go bald you dont see men in their 20's 30's 40's with the same juevenile hairline they had in their teens.

Go see a dermatologist and ask if he thinks you have male pattern baldness. If he does, ask for propecia. I used to shed a lot of hair in the shower also (30+), but now I shed less than 5 haris since taking finasteride.

this just isnt true. what about the george clooneys out there? sure, its rare, but i dont understand why youre telling someone who says himself that he has a receding hairline and thinning in the front, that its all ok and hes probably not balding?
sure, he might not be balding, but the fact is that its a pretty big likelihood that he does have male pattern baldness and is in fact headed towards a shiny head if he doesnt act on it.

Thats why I said NEARLY all men. Thats the truth NEARLY all men who dont go bald still wont have the same low dense hairline as an adult as they had in their teens. Think of any man in his 30's and 40's with hair I bet if you compared a photo of them now to when they were 16 they'd have a more receeded hairline.
The Clooneys and Pitts of this world are the top1% of hair genetics.

Heres what I mean:

A teenage Johnny Depp, look how low the hairline is.

And in his 30's still not bald or even balding but the hairline is matured.

Depp is a NW2/2.5 who wears his hair long to cover it up. Simply google "johnny depp hair loss" and you'll see plenty of pictures of his receded hair line even 20 years ago.

Its not M.P.B though its just a MATURE HAIRLINE!!!!! Thats the whole point its something that is perfectly ordinary with an adult man. Its by far the most common hairline in the world.

Nobody in Hollywood or any of his fans or any NORMAL person looks at Johnny Depp and sees a balding man. They just see a grown man with an ordinary head of hair. You cant call it balding if its been the same for 20b yrs. I had that kind of forehead and hairline at 11 years old. Was I balding back then??

I had the same hairline at 30-32 that I had as a teen. The the sh*t hit the fan and from 36-38 it went nuts. I thought I had it beat!

RSR38 I think sometimes a "mature" hairline can come later in life for some. My "mature" hairline is starting to form in my 40's. However, I do notice most hispanics keep their juvenile hairline( perfectly straight) well into their 60's and 70's. I have a friend that is in his mid 50's and his hairline has not changed since he was a teen. His hair is so thick and his hairline is so low that he has always been teased that he wears a wig. I wish I had such a problem............................

It's the Native American blood. Latinos from Mexico, Peru, El Salvador and other countries with a large indigenous population have great hair. Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Cubans, Chileans, Argentines and probably Columbians have more European and/or African blood so they bald just like anyone else.
