What Sort Of Hair Loss Does This Look Like?

I’m 19 years old with very little family history, dad norwood1, paternal grandfather Norwood 1, paternal uncles both Norwood 1s or 2s. Maternal grandfather started thinning at 40 and is a Norwood 4 in his mid 70s, maternal uncle has full head of hair. My hair seems to have fallen out all over the place starting about 8 months ago and has slowed a little since but not by much. I haven’t started any treatment but I’m thinking about it soon. The hair loss pattern just seems weird to me. Let me know what you think. I’ve essentjally come to terms with the fact that I’ll probably be bald in the next 5 years but I’d appreciate some kind of explanation as to why.

You have significant recession. In view of your family history, there's a chance your recession won't progress much further than it has. But on the other hand, there's a good chance it will progress all the way to Nw7 if left untreated. I recommend you get on finasteride as soon as you can.

I would definitely get on finasteride, and if it eventually gets bad enough, a hair system until you turn 25 (the common minimum age that surgeons will perform hair transplants). Hopefully finasteride will help maintain what you have until then, and minoxidil could help gain some!

You have a long fight ahead of you if you want to keep your hair man. With your family history its really unfortunate that this is happening. If you are okay with going bald within the next 5 years then you should just leave it. Although I am telling you right now that even if you think you are okay with going bald now once you shave it you will realize that you still want to have hair. If you really do care about keeping your hair I think you should get on finasteride+minoxidil right now, as soon as possible. With hair loss, time is of the essence especially in young and aggressive cases like ours. The longer you wait the less likely you can regrow some hair or even maintain your hair. And keep in mind that even with all of modern medications it is still very possible to go bald while being on all of these drugs.

With that being said, I don't want to be offensive but I am curious, are you 100% sure that your dad is your biological dad?

I have hair very similar to my dads and he was a thick nw1 til death. Although my moms losing quite a bit of hair. OP does it seem like your mom’s hair might be thinning? You can get it from her too, which I think is the case for me.
