What Kind Of Style Would Suit This Recession?

Hey everyone,

Hope you are all well :)

I'm going to have my first consult at a salon in a few weeks, and I was wondering, based on my type of hair loss, if anyone has any styles/tips for a natural look?

I'm going to go for an unexposed-hairline, as I have always had a mop/bangs sort of. I am just a bit conscious of getting a sort of "lid" effect due to my sides, and wondered if there was anything I should keep in mind regarding a style.

I know it may not seem super bad from the pictures, but in person it's quite noticeable - and is quite a bit more receded than is shown here.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your help.

Hi Smeesh

If you are going to stick with that style, it will be basically the traditional approach of filling in the receded corners and lowering the hairline a bit. The "lid" effect is created if someone has very full coverage with a low convex hairline like a teenager, but their sidehair is very thin and receded, maybe to the point where the temple points have completely gone. To get a believable result there has to be balance, and the sides have to "support" the believability of the look you are creating on top. Your sides are not super-strong, but they are not that bad either. Definitely strong enough to support a fuller look and a lower hairline. I think your sides would look better if you cut the hair short around your ears and let it sit naturally and puff out a bit, rather than sweeping it back behind your ears - that seems to emphasise the thinness. Also, try growing some sideburns. Even if you keep them cropped close, they will give the subliminal signal that you still have hair there.

I have done a crude mark-up to show you what I mean. If you squint, it will give you an idea of the look you will get.

I've had an issue like you have, and the only thing that helped me is total redesign of my hair style I had before ...

I wonder if these suggestions about making sides look stronger apply to others as well. I've let my sides grow quite long and I push them behind my ears actually. I wonder if I am making myself look worse with that.
