WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? PLEASE HELP ME. [PICS]

Please someone help me figure this out.

I am 18 years old. I was overweight for a good portion of my life, I started working out on June 26th 2014 to like Mid-Late August. I lost 28KG or 60LBS during this time. I worked out once a day at first, starting at 2 miles and then 20 sit ups. I then did that twice a day, and then moved it onto 3 times a day. So around the end I was doing it more vigorously, 6 mile speedwalks/jogs and then 60 sit ups. I had a restricted diet, I was going below my calorie intake consistently + working out on top of it.

Come September, once I get my haircut. I start noticing my hair falling out a lot, just generally. I had very thick hair, it got to the point where you could feel how thin it had gotten. Even my barber said that it's thinned out. It all just happened so suddenly. I am really paranoid right now, I don't know what this is. I went to my Doctor and he said that it's Telogen Effluvium from the physical stress my body endured and the amount of weight I lost. Though, I need some more reassurance. I am really worried about this and I just want people to be honest and tell me what it is. It's gotten to the point where I feel as if even my hairline is receding from searching so much stuff on male pattern baldness.

So basically, just 3 months after the Stressful event.

I'm really so paranoid I can't even tell what it is. It's like In the middle of my hairline and crown that's where it's the most thinned out.. No bald patches as my Doctor said. But it's just, I don't know. It's not in the male pattern baldness pattern? Is my hairline receding? Please if someone could tell me I'd appreciate it. Also, does it look as if it's diffuse? As in all over my scalp?

The hairs that fall out 99.9% of the time have a white bulb attached to the end of them.

Here are some pics:

2 Pictures with the RED shirts are with wet hair.

It does look like you're diffuse thinning very heavily to me. It could be Telogen Effluvium, but I don't know a lot about that. Wait for someone more knowledgeable to chime in, hopefully!

If you were just losing on the top I would say it's male pattern baldness, but the sides look pretty thin too. I would see a Doctor and let him tell you what's going on. He would know better than most of us I assume.

Do you guys reckon there is anything wrong with my hairline? I'm comparing it to old pictures and I don't see much of a different. On the right side of my head my hair naturally sticks up in a weird shape, I don't know why.

I did go to the doctor and they said it's Telogen Effluvium. Though, I just need reassurance. I'm really worried. It's in the UK and the NHS doesn't care about hairloss that much.

its hairloss starting. plain and simple. I can see the hairs in the front of the hairline thinning and doing that straggly thing they do when it happens. Theres temple recession starting and your crowns cowlick is thin.
Start using some meds and see if it helps.

It very likely is a Telogen Effluvium due to rapid weightloss and restricted diet. This happened to me many years ago. The bad new is that a Telogen Effluvium can also incite male pattern baldness in those genetically predisoposed to it. Basically, you may have been destined to start losing hair in 10 years to MBP, but the Telogen Effluvium caused this process to start early. My best advice would be to allow the Telogen Effluvium to resolve itself and evaluate your hair in 6 months. You can also use minoxidil to help stimulate the regrowth after Telogen Effluvium. If, after 6 months, you still feel like you're thinning it might be wise to consult a doctor about Propecia which can halt or slow the progression of male pattern baldness.

Well why is it so sudden? I went from SUPER THICK hair too very thin hair and diffuse thinning as it is now?

Could it be Telogen Effluvium? I did lose like 60LBS in 2 months working out excessively and lowering my calorie intake.

Also all hairs have a white bulb at the end of them.

If it is male pattern baldness then how long do you reckon it would take for me to go bald?

It is male pattern baldness, the hairline is receding... looks alot like my hair.

I would say 2-3 years until you'll have to start shaving your head, if you don't start treatment

For the love of god no! Anything but that!

Damn those are some nice pics of your hair. You should have been doing haircut or shampoo commercials.

Hahah, thanks.. I hope it stays though at least for another good few years.

In comparison to these photos and to the ones I posted just now, is there a difference? Is it receding?

My hairline has always been like the pictures I posted from a year ago. I'm just too paranoid to even tell the difference right now.

IMO your hair doesn't look as full today as it did a year ago.

Yeah, its thinned out a lot. I lost a lottt of weight so. My doctor said its Telogen Effluvium due to physical stress.

But did you think my hairline has receeded since then? Or is it just thinned out diffusely.

What do you think with the before pics? Do you think it is receding?

we need better pics of the hairline dude, very bad quality and lighting in the pics you posted. Personally, I havn't seen enough evidence yet that you have begun to lose you're hair and it does look like Telogen Effluvium to me, we need better hairline pics

I can't take any with better quality. Those are the best I got. Yesterday I trimmed all my hair off because of how I paranoid I was, do you reckon it would be easier to tell with shorter hair?

EDIT: Not really all the way down just like an inch or two above it.

I think its Telogen Effluvium.... losing that much weight sometimes causes diffusing hairloss..... is your dad or grandparents norwood 5-7?

It definitely is Telogen Effluvium because I did a pull test and it is exactly how it says 4-5 hairs. My doctor also said it is most likely Telogen Effluvium due to the physical stress on my body from the exercise.

My Dad is, yes. But he still grows like hair on his head, but not as much. He started with a receeding hairline, became bald around at 40 years of age. He still had hair but he just decided to shave it off.

My grandad from Fathers side, not sure. My maternal side, yeah.

One of my Uncles from my Maternal Side is a Norwood 6, he's in his 50's.

Everyone in my family that lost hair lost it in their early-mid 30's when it actually became noticeable, the main issue with my dad was that he actually just used a lot of products on his hair like hairdryers and such literally from inches away from his hair which caused his hairloss.

I know that I will /eventually/ go bald. I just don't want to go bald before my 30's. I'm only 18.. This was just worrying me.

Also can someone please tell me from a comparison of my old pictures and new ones. Has my hairline receded?

In my opinion, your family history looks quite worrying, and your hairline has receded a little bit... :/

There is no completely bald member in my family and no one showed a sign of hairloss before 40, yet I am losing hair at 20, just like my great-grandfather, it is possible.

There is a slight chance it is Telogen Effluvium, but 99% of the cases the reason for hair loss in men is male pattern baldness. You should really give better pics of your hairline

It is Telogen Effluvium, definitely.

Firstly, my Doctor diagnosed me with it. Though I needed reassurance.

Secondly, it's diffuse, all over my scalp.

Thirdly, I lost 26kilos over 2 months.. that's basically 13 kilos in a month which is EXTREME weight loss and the most certain way to trigger Telogen Effluvium is crash dieting/extreme exercise (Bear in mind at this time I did limit my calorie intake to allow me to lose weight this fast, exercised rigorously too)

And, Lastly..

Did like a number 3 machine all over my head, after I posted these pics just because it was annoying me. I washed my hair and dried them off. I then did a hair pull test which was DEFINITELY positive. Like 5-6 hairs came out in each pull basically, I did it over 15 seperate areas of my scalp that are not within the male pattern baldness pattern.

I don't think it is male pattern baldness. Nothing points towards it. + I don't think my hairline has receded now that I actually relaxed a bit and had a look. It's thinned out. Yes.

And, I agree with you on two things about the family history and the what mostly the case of hair loss is.. But bear in mind..

I'm only 18, I turned 18 in April. It's too young for male pattern baldness to actually trigger, it's very rare for it to happen at this age. No one in my family generally lost hair until their 30s-40s but yeah, it can happen.

But for me, the symptoms are too uncanny. Everything is pointing towards Telogen Effluvium. Especially seeing as it occurred approximately 3 months after I started exercising which is generally when Telogen Effluvium kicks in after the trigger.

And also, the Thinning is diffuse. It is ALL over my scalp.

male pattern baldness does not function like this. It would not make my hair fall out this excessively as it is. It was extremely thick but lost it's volume and thickness in just a month or two..
