What is the mechanism of a thickening shampoo?

What results can it give and how?

If it works by accumulating stuff on the hair shaft is there a chance that it could encumber the absorption of topicals?

Any good suggestions?

I dont know what the mechanism is but having tried a couple (currently using revivogen thickening conditioner) I can say that I never notice them making any difference whatsoever so the effect is marginal at best in my opinion.
