5 alpha reductase inhibitors like finasteride and dutasteride increase SHBG.

They decrease free testosterone but increase total testosterone

Testosterone is mostly bound in the body either to SHBG or Albumin and a fraction of it is called free testosterone.

SHBG bound T is inactive.

Albumin bound T is partially active

And free testosterone is at all times biologically active.

Where is the proof your testosterone rises? From a Merck pamphlet? Have you actually tested your testosterone baseline and after you have been on the drug?

I took several blood test , before propecia, at 6 month,1 year, 2 year.
And for me propecia raise my testosterone of 33%. But the increase of test is not a good thing because it mostly concerts to oestrogen.

Sorry man, I've just seen propecia work for many people around me(my brother, my Doctor and 1friend) I can't help but give my insight when negative people like you are ruining any young mans chance at holding onto whatever hair they have left for whatever time it can.

Man believe me, people read the horror stories you're not telling anyone anything new.

Usually your test goes up just as much as your estro, it's once the ratio goes out of whack that you start to experience sides.

My blood tests indicate both an increase in estro and testo.

When I first started the drug early 2015 I did experienc some sides. Had to get off lose some weight and get back on (doctors advice) and honestly, no gyno signs, no major sexual sides beside my refractory period more than double when I f***.

So right now thenoptions are, lose my hair at a faster rate than now, or wait 30 minutes longer before I go in for round 2... hmmmm.....

Btw to make it clear I thought propecia was pure poison before I got on it. If you would've told me to take finasteride in 2014 I would've laughed in your face.

I took the drug, seen many people take the drug since I started and said fk it and gave it a try. Not regretting it one bit.

Agree with you on Spironolactone. That can eliminate testosterone.

In fact, spironolactone is MORE effective for hair loss in women then progesterone, which is
also effective in women.

There are government studies to back that up.
