Want To Leave Hair Club & Diy, But Scared To Death. Help?

Long story short, tired of the money I have paid them over the years, and the inconvenience of living and dying by their schedule and times. I want to leave so bad, but I am afraid of the DIY. I don't have anywhere within 60+ miles where I could go to have it serviced, I would never in a million years tell a barber, and word spreads fast where I live, so no one local I could go to at all.

I just feel scared about cutting the piece to look natural, and I feel overwhelmed with what to buy and from who. I don't understand the acronyms used here, nor do I know what my actual hair color is so it will match, nor do I know the measurements of my system. I'm guessing I would need to start there first?

I also read stories about these companies using clothing dye on the hair, and I use a lace base, but want to go with other options like the thin clear base, but I am just confused, overwhelmed, and scared that I will mess it up. I pay HC a lot of money and shouldn't leave the salon feeling anything but love for the piece and I almost never do.

One new girl started doing my services a year ago who has been amazing, and I even mentioned it to her about doing work on the side, but she was hesitant. So I just need to know how hard it is to cut the pieces, that's my main concern. I have a good feel for laying the piece down and maintenance, just not sure who to get the systems from, how often, and what base is best.

Anyone else ever left HC for DIY?

I made that move - not actually Hair Club, but a place with a similar methodology - and I have never had a moment of regret. I am paying a tiny fraction of what I was paying my "club", the systems are far better, I am doing maintenance when it's convenient to me and as often as I feel is necessary, which means better hygiene and a fresher looking system. Best of all, I am independent and in control of my own look, and not panicked by some little hiccup when I am travelling.

But, it's one thing doing your own ordering and maintenance, and quite another thing to do your own cut-ins. Maintenance is easy - you can pick that up over a weekend. But unless you already know about cutting hair, that is something best left to professionals. But that doesn't mean you have to stick with Hair Club. I notice you are in California, the spiritual home of the men's hair system , so there are bound to be be freelance hairdressers not too far from you who will do cut-ins on an internet-bought system. Alternatively you can have cut-ins done remotely - I know that sounds like it wouldn't work, but actually in skilled hands it works very well.

I will PM you some ideas of where you could start, and am happy to talk you though the options at your own pace. Believe me - you won't regret it,

Hey man! Honestly it is a little scary switching to Diy at first but as Noah has said it's so much cheaper and worth it.

Now mind you I still choose to go to my salon once every 4 weeks simply because I like how they style and cut my bio hair. Ive ordered systems myself by sending in an old one for duplication but I have 1 more from the salon.

Apart from that I do my own re and re, and have now even learned to colour my system (surprisingly easy with this grey reducing shampoo I found).

I am able to keep my system looking better and more hygienic for my scalp as a result.

My advice is start off slow. Do you redo your own hairline?

I started off with a poly bond around perimeter so I could get 3-4 weeks of hold, but tape at the front! Which I changed weekly myself.

Noah has a fantastic method of putting on a full system which I have used successfully over and over to apply the full system on. But take one step at a time.

Yes I do my own frontal. I have been a member for a very long time, so I am familiar with how most of the maintenance works.

What do you mean by you started with a poly bond? What is that exactly? You mean the base was the skin base and not lace?

I don't have a full system, and feel like that would just be too much, honestly.
