Hi everybody, I lurked around a bit today and there's some great information on here!
But I wanted to get a little more specific and personalized advice on my particular situation.
Growing up I always had a great head of hair, very full and thick. So I am extremely upset and becoming pretty obsessed with my hair now that I have noticed some major changes.
My hairline probably started receding some time while in college (between 2008-2012) although I didn't really take notice until this year. Now I not only see my hairline has drastically changed, but my hair is thin, frizzy and kind of "dead" looking.
I've attached a bunch of pictures throughout the years, so you guys can see what my hair/hairline used to look like and what it looks like today.
I was my hair twice a week with a moisturizing shampoo and 3 times a week with a volumizing conditioner but haven't noticed much of a difference.
My hair dresser said that I may not have enough oils in my diet, although I do eat salmon pretty often for dinner.
I also began experiencing what I can only describe as dandruff this year. I had had issues with it in the past, but it usually went away rather quickly. However, this seems to persist even with regular shampooing and conditioning. At it's worst, I could scratch and scratch my head, some times peeling off flakes of skin and at the least getting a build up under my fingernails. At the least, I can be sitting on the couch and notice a lot of flakes on my shoulders/back.
I'd rather not get on finasteride as I've heard some bad things regarding the side effects that I would rather avoid. I'd like to try a more conservative approach at first, trying a combination of products and seeing what the results are like before being left with no other choice but to start taking finasteride if need be.
What do you guys think? Is it possible that it could be some type of hormonal/thyroid/something along those lines? What regimen would you suggest I start with? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! These pics are in order from senior year of HS throughout college and the last 3 are from this year:
