this normal? starting from this scale?!

just got a haircut....see the avatar/display picture on the left?...this is the region where i'm losing my hair from. no, my scalp is still not visable..i have hair, but this is where i'm thinning from...and if it keeps up...in a few months this is exactly where i'll be on the Norwood scale...

my question is, is it normal to start from here ?! i mean.i just have a slight temple recession , but the rest of the hairloss is from this region. i've probably lost 50 % of the hair in the top center ALL diffuse thinning, not patchy, so if i slick back my hair which i've grown around 2½ inches , its still not visable and gets covered up.

i had a friend who went through a bout of t.e, and this is EXacTly the region where he lost his hair from, top center of the head and front. but with me , it seems the hair i shed NEVER grows back. in the past 4 years i havent seen 'new hair' growing at all. the sides of my head although definitely not noticeable have thinned out too.

is it possible for hairloss to start from here ? , i thought it started from the crown and temples first. my crown seems perfectly fine.

could this be from stress? i know my everyday stress is enough to get my b.p up and down everyday so could it be its causing hairloss as well?.

also hair falling has no white bulb, just a tiny black bump at the end.

am currently on finasteride but i doubt it'll kick in fast enough to prevent what the next couple of months will bring about in this region on my head.

Hi Krush
just wondering your friend that had Telogen Effluvium did all his hair grow back in this area? i was diagnoised with Telogen Effluvium and this is the region im losing my hair.I have regrowth sprouting through here and there and its growing in to mature hair. Its still diffused and regrowth is slow but slowly its sprouting up.Just wondering if his hair went back to normal. :? Ive held off starting a treatment because the regrowth seems to be coming back on its own.

yes, every single one of his hair grew back. it was slow and he used growth accelerating shampoos but nobody can tell if hes lost a single hair now. its relative, grows in different amounts of time with different people, but if you've got growth sprouting like you say, then you shouldnt have to worry about anything. are you losing hair in the same area as i am? and how long did you lose it for? ...any truamatic event/surgery recently?

best of luck to you

Yes im losing it in the same area as you but i have thinning on the back aswell i got a small patch by the neck.I had major stress last year i mean major not everyday stress and had depression with it too.Started to lose my hair in about november time roughly 50-80 hairs when i washed it plus loads on my pillow and easily another 30 when i rubbed my head.It went back to normal in about feb.I
have had a few heavy sheds since but before all this i had no signs of male pattern baldness i had thick normal hair and now in just a short time its got so thin the scalp is nearly visable.I have noticed with the regrowth it is growing in quicker at the front but its still a bit sparse. But at the crown i have a cluster of them here and there just poking through the scalp. So im nearly 9 months in to it. :(

it does sound like t.e that you have. give it time, it'll come back. as long as you've gotten rid of the 'underlying problem' that caused the shed to begin with. try some growth accelerator shampoo. you dont lose hair at the temples do you?

I did lose a bit at the temples but that was the first to grow back and what has grown back has grown back in to strong hair and i have odd patches at the temples where the regrowth is just coming through.

yea, i have noticed that too, some hairs with white bulb and some with tiny black bump on them. What is the difference between two kinds?

well..it has no significance in male pattern baldness or whatever...hair that falls early in the telogen phase has the white bulb at the end, while the hair that falls at the end of the telogen phase has the blackish club. not sure. you cant use the end of the bulb yourself to diagnose anything whatsoever.

Ok i just read few articles on web about this. What they are saying is that, if u have small black bump on the end, it means your hair is still in growth phase and fall out for some unusual reason.

But still not sure what it means for people with male pattern baldness :( good, bad or doesn't matter?

The color of the bulb doesn't matter. It is just an indication of the maturity of the bulb.

Bulbs only come into play when you are shedding hair with NO bulb. This is an indication of a hair health problem, i.e. breakage, but this is not male pattern baldness-related.

so is this common? losing hair from the Norwood 5A region?, my entire hairloss is just from the vertex and the front of the hairline (right side). and i've never noticed hair growing or replacing the ones i've shed. arent you supposed to start from the crown and temples rather than the vertex straight off? my crown is ok, its just the vertex and front.

your thoughts please?

thats the problem, stress induced hairloss also occurs in the frontal and vertex regions while male pattern baldness is known to affect the crown, vertex and temples as well. differentiating between the two is a b**ch. but the texture of my hair on the back and sides has also gone real thin. its only the vertex that is getting more and more visable by day and the front somewhat.

do you lose short hair mickey?...thats the weird bit with me, most of the hair i'm losing is short, real short.

Its hard to say Krush as i keep my hair short otherwise i would look a freak as my hair is in such a mess.I started at the vertex temples and as time went on the vertex has spread to behind my ear.and the top has got diffuse and i also have a diffuse patch forming at the back of my neck just before where my hair ends.

hmm....wouldnt your hairloss be more visable with short hair?...in my case i slick my hair back and you cant see anything...but the second the hair in the front fall forward towards the forehead...you can see the thinning right on the vertex. do you have any pictures of your t.e ?

i cant seem to find anybody on the forum with male pattern baldness who started out losing hair from the vertex. most of them go through the norwood sequence unlike in my case, i'm starting from here. and i've still started finasteride and minoxidil (ugh).

then again, i dont know if this really is persistant t.e . have lots of everyday stress but have been shedding since 4 years. my dad had a bad stress problem too, it gave him stomach aches. with me, the stress is playing havoc with my b.p

and losing short hair is another thing i cant explain. why would i lose more short hair ?*shrugs

regrowth you say is expected within a year? ..

i just went through another very stressful episode right after my exams a month ago. i dont know if this current shed is because of that. somedays i lose 10 hair...others i lose 30...today i lost 5 :? !?....weird

my dad is almost 54..and hes just started losing hair ...but i think its due to aging...hes got that 'anthony hopkins' hairline, with a very slight bald spot forming in the back.

any history of male pattern baldness in your family mick?
