The Role Of 5 Alpha Reductase Type 1 In male pattern baldness

Hey guys so as the title suggests I’m wondering whether 5 alpha reductase type 1 plays any role in male pattern baldness, because I read somewhere that there were these Dominican dudes that had a genetic deficiency in type 2, but normal type 1 and they never went bald. This suggests to me that it’s type 2 which is the enzyme responsible so then why is dutasteride which blocks both type 1 and 2 more effective than finasteride that only blocks type 2? Is Dutasteride better at blocking type 2 than finasteride, which would explain it? Also if this is the case why didn’t Merck try to find a better inhibitor than finasteride of type 2 only. Is it not possible to do that without blocking type 1 as well?

I am considering taking Dutasteride after being on finasteride for 5,5 months with no sides, but really I don’t like the idea of blocking type 1 if I don’t need to especially since it exits in significant quantities in the brain?

What do you guys think about this?

Its possible those Dominican guys just weren't predisposed to male pattern baldness. Merck actually did trial run a drug which blocked type 1 and it didn't help with hair loss. Stick with finasteride, dutasteride is only for those who see no benefit from finasteride or have had finasteride stop working for them.

Like the above said stick to finasteride its a lot safer. This has been discussed in the past you can search for bryan too he had answers around this. finasteride = 70 percent 5 ar 2. dutasteride = nearly 100 percent 5 ar 2. dutasteride is much more effective at reducing the 5 ar 2 which is why it works better, but 5 ar 1 like said above was not found to be a major player in male pattern baldness. Removing it is a bit dangerous and silly for no reason.
That being said dutasteride is stronger and works better, but I wouldnt touch the stuff personally. I think DHT generally and 5 ar 1 does have roles in the body we dont understand yet. A study found 5 ar 1 does play a role in insulin production. Just not worth the risks for hair.

Ive read a few things online about the dht reduction yes it is about 65 to 70% but what i dont understand is, is this its overall effect on lowering scalp dht which if i am correct is what causes baldess of is this spread over the body as ive read that it only lowers scalp dht to around 40% but then seen studies saying otherwise which has left me a bit confused as to how dht is targeted around the body and how much is left to potentially still cause harm.
