The biggest mistake young men make - Not treating their hair loss early.

Not really, it's just not a pleasant experience to have to go through. Hair loss is worse than some internal conditions because others can see what is going on, I'd rather have hypothyroidism with no hair loss, that way noone knows that there's something wrong with you. Psychologically it is devastating. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I cannot contemplate losing my hair, I cannot accept it, I never will accept it at this age. Starting treatments for male pattern baldness when you may not have it is a stupid thing to do.

No normal 20 year old wakes up in the morning and is happy to be bald. I wont accept it either. I have over 50k reserved just for future treatments.

Just be happy that in our time there's a lot going for us, rather than in the 80's or 90's where there was pretty much nothing you can do.

but see, it's just not that simple, first you have to go through the denial and whatnot of having shedding and/or male pattern baldness, and then have to figure out if it's real/fake (speaking of which, please comment on my hairloss on my page!) , then people hear myths about hairloss and how cutting their hair short makes everything better, or how if you drink milk your hair magically appears the next morning. There's a lot of fake information out there... and much of it is from "hairloss" companies taking advantage of the very desperate or as was mentioned, misinformed barbers. Btw, finasteride is scary.

100% agree with post, wish when I was 16 I received a letter in post with hair loss treatments solutions and prices and where to buy and then followed by "sooner you start the less you loose" in black bold capitals. Letter should also clearly state hair loss treatments maintain what you have not regrow new hair like it was before.

I been waiting 15+ years for any type of cure and nadda, I doubt it will ever come. hair transplant and then using all 3 to maintain is best and only option I feel.

I think the generation after me and then several after are able to search these type of forums and hopefully smart enough to learn from us old gits mistakes, hair loss treatments only maintain not regrow should be clearly mentioned at least 10x around these forums!

How old are you ? What age did you start losing hair ?

36, started around 17-18 but my loss was very slow.... I figured it was a mature hairline and my hair was just getting less thicker and more settled (is that not what we all prayed for !) perhaps at 20-21 my mates started to call me front baldy.... so that pretty much killed any sense of life or joy and it has been the same ever since.

Started hair loss treatments the big 3 daily @ age 30, had too many issues and problems to bear so left it too late now one can just enjoy the regrets.

I feel a hair transplant to get as much coverage back is the best bet then go on the big 3 once the hair is more growing and healed up, and keep it up and consider more hair transplant treatments later on down the road. If you have the money then you can, I can't and perhaps will never have that chance so the big 3 is all I have.

Perhaps in a few years time may look at a front hair piece to solve all issues.

Propecia is not for me, using minoxidil and keto shampoo. . . .is it it gonna be enough?

Not really, the big 3 (Propecia or finasteride + minoxidil + keto or nizoral shampoo) are still the old school and most common solutions available but Propecia/finasteride + minoxidil are the main 2 you need there is only so long you can go on for before you see the need for it and by then it maybe too late! other newer treatments exist which you can try but you may find worse or unfounded side effects since they are still too new. Its a risk I guess you gotta take if your willing.

When I began loosing sites like this didn't even exist. Propecia was around but still needed a doctors prescription and I didn't find out about it and my own hair loss until it was too late to recover anything substantial.

I'm 17 and just started taking .5mg Propecia every day. My hair is not thin but not thick either, however my temples have receded leaving me with a full blown Norwood 2.

What do you guys think my chances are of maintaining my hair?

My dermatologist prescribed it to me because my hair loss has gone way past a "mature hairline".

And yes I know of the side effects. All the studies say their occur in 2% of users and they all resolved after discontinuing. You should also know that in Spain, Propecia can be bought over the counter.

The only thing I'm worried about is losing anymore hair.

Eh its your opinion and I could easily argue treating it with propecia is a mistake. Your gambling with propecia or any drug its just a fact. Its not like your taking a vitamin to keep your hair your rolling the dice long term on your health that DHT is not important in any other diseases or problems which are also not very well understood. Does DHT play a role in male aging? No one knows so far we have no evidence, but doesnt mean its not.
So your saying you feel comfortable taking it, but other people might not. Doesnt mean your right with your advice because a lot of doctors would advise against using propecia for a cosmetic condition.

I just can't get my head around the fact people don't mind the fact their sexual drive could get seriously messed up no matter how rare this side effect is...is hairloss a b**ch? hell yes but even at my lowest point with hairloss (which was many years ago) taking a drug what could mess up your sex drive never and i mean NEVER would of crossed my mind...but it is your lives obviously and i know people think differently but still.

I noticed my hairloss when I was 23 and acted on it 2 months before my 24th birthday - since taking propecia I can honestly say I regret It I experienced MASSIVE shedding for well over a year and there was no one and I mean NOONE that would help - I did get on treatments early listening to people on this board and that is all well and good advice I really have nothing against it but I suffered reflex hyperandrogenicity from taking propecia it wasn't some 'typical shed' from taking propecia (I also switched to dutasteride for a 3 month stint after a year on propecia) I lost so much hair I went to a THICK head of hair with slight recession to having to buzz my head down and cover up all the spots on top that are showing through now easily I am 25 and have nothing to show for acting on it early I have lost well over half of my coverage on top and have had several tests from dermatologists and so called hair 'specialists' and no help is available all they say is keep taking the drug! I have stopped the drug and voilà my extreme persistent hairloss stops I was losing it from the sides and even my eyebrows! I am in no way trying to persuade people to not act fast I am just saying that sometimes it is not as simple as oh quick start taking this pill - everything must be considered before taking the plunge towards taking propecia. I am still getting terrible scalp itch and losing hair now which is all part of my hormones trying to balance out from the dht and t conversion I guess, I am monitoring it with blood tests but I fear the damage has been done and I can never fix what I have lost.
