Greetings from Egypt,
My name is Mohamed, I'm 21 and am freaked out because of my hair loss. My hair has always been long, thick and shiny until 2 years ago when it started to look crooked but still long, thick, and shiny. I started working out 1 year ago for about 6 months and my diet improved a lot with supplements like Centrum and whey protein. I experienced what I call a rebirth of my childhood hair. My hair grew at a crazy rate and got complements from everyone. Well this happened despite the fact that bodybuilding boosts testosterone levels and so DHT increases. After stopping going to the gym my diet got messed up and was (and still is) way unhealthy. I started shedding a lot of hair the first 1-3 months and then recently my hairline started receding and my hair thins out and falls at a constant rate

Now my father started getting bald only at 42, he's 51 now. He still has his side and back hairs long and thick but white. His father wasn't bald and his brothers aren't.

My grandfather from my mother's side was bald but his son wasn't. Now I'm thinking If i'm getting bald, then it has to be sometime later in my life.

I'm thinking of going back to the gym only for my diet to improve and get those vitamins and minerals back to my body. But I'm still concerned about the level of DHT (which I guess is very active in my body right now) to increase and ruin everything for me.

I don't know if this is related but I have a very oily skin and get frequent acne. I'm also guessing that maybe the closed pores at the top of my face contributed to the receding hairline.

I went to a dermatologist who prescribed me a minoxidil and multivitamins which I used for 3 months but with no minor improvement. In fact my hair continued falling at a high rate.

I know this would never be your bedtime story but I'm currently stressed out because of my hair problem. I don't want to visit other dermatologists who would prescribe me similar treatments.

I had to get this off my chest :(

Hmm. You know what's confusing about these sites, it's that I have heard a LOT of times people say that 'my dad started losing hair at 40' and stuff like that, but many of the people who state this are in their 20's and losing hair already.

I guess a theory could be that bodybuilding/bad diet accelerated it, I doubt your father used to do bodybuilding?

Anyway, IF it is male pattern baldness, you need to get on finasteride (propecia/proscar), minoxidil which you're already using I think (I really hope you didn't quit!!) and nizoral or a similar anti-dandruff shampoo. Possibly add a copper peptide to that like folligen or tricomin.

It sounds like male pattern baldness, but for the best diagnosis people on here to offer, you need to take pictures for us. Best would be to go to a derm/doctor (I never bothered though lol). Good luck!!

Well I don't have pictures right now but on the norwood scale I'm somewhere around 1.5.

I started losing hair only after stopping going to the gym. Bodybuilding + healthy diet + supplements actually improved my hair and no my dad didn't BB.

When my hair is short I don't notice anything in my crown but when it gets longer, I do notice somewhat emptier (if that's the correct word) areas behind my temples (to the sides of the crown). Now more of my forehead is noticeable and when I look close in the mirror I see much shorter, occasional hair in what was once the original hairline (like a tree in the desrert but not actually a desert lol).

The minoxidil I was on is produced locally and I'm not sure if I can get access to finasteride. Nizoral I can get.

I'm curious though, If I go back to a very balanced diet along with supplements, and maybe find ways to relieve stress (I had to deal with a couple of deaths earlier this year), do I get my hair to regrow without treatments?

Oh! Well that's important because I really do think stress is a big factor in hairloss. I'd definatly suggest trying that regime of improving your diet and health and reducing stress, and maybe use nizoral once a week (twice if you have a dandruff problem).

Russians believe that the first thing to show stress is hair, and I certainly experienced this too.
