Hello! I am 19 and started using 1/4 proscar on my doctors advice (she said 1/3 but i take 1/4).However after 3-4 days I want to give up as I have read several side effect studies and research papers.I heard its very effective thought,so I would still use it after i try all treatments...My questions is
Will I get effects such as more hair lose because i have taken some proscar?
How frequently I should use minoxil %5? (i am thinking about 1 spray per 2 days)
I have read many rumors about minoxil being useless after a year (and even making it worse),how much truth in it?
I have very thin hair and ppl can easily say I am balding (I guess i am between Norwood 2-3)

Apologies if my questions sound stupid or overreacting.I just want to hear your opinion.Thank you for reading.
(I also became very depressive and very isolated because of this matter,i could use help on that as well)

You should not get more hair loss. Most people do very well on Finasteride. Some people have said it made their hair worse on this message board just like people say aspirin made their head ache worse. It doesn't work 100% of the time. If you are getting too many side effects you can also cut it into 8ths as well and take this amount daily. 1.25mg/day is actually a pretty high dosages for hair loss (studies have shown .25-.5mg to reduce scalp DHT by just as much).

You can use Minoxidil once or twice a day. Instructions say to use it twice however once is good too. Try using it twice when you can but at least use it once.

Minoxidil won't make your hair worse after a year. People say the full benefits are realized in a year-2yrs. Some people maintain on Minoxidil alone and some people it does nothing for.

Just be aware that both medications are known to cause initial sheds for at least a month or two after starting the drugs. This is normal and you need to power through it.

Please look at things such as Topikk or Derma Match to help hide thinning areas if you are feeling self conscious and if you notice more thinning when first starting. These are very good and will help boost your confidence while on the treatments.

First of all thank you for your reply!
its almost impossable to cut proscar equally because its too small.I dont have any sides besides some pain in the testicular area .However,I really hate taking this medicine. Can minoxil and xpecia togather be a weaker solution? Also I used this for 5 days, will my hair loss rate increase after giving it up today? (they say you will have much worse after giving up proscar).Because i dont think i will be able to keep this medicine without side effects for prolonged time

Minoxidil is not a long term solution and doesn't address one of the root causes of male pattern baldness. You should be fine dropping finasteride as its only been 5 days. Think carefully about it before you do, its the safest, effective treatment that we have right now.

You can get a pill cutter or crush up the 1/4 and take half of the powder. Testicular ache is common and usually disappears pretty soon.

It is your choice. Without Finasteride the treatment will most likely be less effective but the Minoxidil and vitamins may be enough for you if you are a good responder. I am just using Rogaine foam and certain antiinflammatories and head massage at the moment myself.

Also minoxil foam isnt avaible in my country, and spray seems to be much worse on terms of application.

i cant really cut them into equal 1/4 or 1/5, will it matter much if i take 0.90 mg a day and later 1.1 etc

As you can tell Retinoid and Anxious Andy are wise and helpful gents, and I mean that with the utmost respect.
We welcome you and I think you will find friends and support here to help alleviate some of the isolation you feel.
If you are feeling too much discomfort then of course you should cease your present medication. However let me give you a possible glimpse into your future if you, as the Gentleman said, power through. There are ways to work through and around and avoid side effects. Some subside soon after you are into your regimen, some never manifest. Many of the listed side effects are experienced by a few of the many people that take Proscar/Finasteride. Read the posts. You will find many people that will encourage others to stick with the course of the Proscar
I went through 2 rounds of chemotherapy multiple radiation therapy sessions. I have severe psoriasis scalp and body.(Now under control) 12 months ago I also went on anti depressants which caused me to lose most of my hair.
The human body is a resiliant marvel. My doctor put me on Finesteride 5 mg for prostate problems ( and hair restoration) Yes Proscar is a useful prostate medication.
>>> A year later (sooner) all my hair is back.(curly, thick, long)
Hair loss slowed almost immediately upon starting Proscar. At 3 months hair loss had stopped and light hair regrowth began.
At 6 months hair was pretty much back but thin in some places but still with new hair coming in. After that it just got better and thicker.
**I am taking a pretty strong dosage that caused fatigue and some sexual dysfunction. I have a great reasonably priced Herbal Male Enhancement supplement that gives me control of my Libido and intense climaxes even size increase. My doctor, a leader in his field, had me take night time dosage of the Proscar to minimize day time side effects. So basically I sleep through the worst of it. Taking 10 mg Biotin helps and finding a Biotin based conditioner might help. Please bear in mind that many people have little or no side effects. If you do. Talk to your doctor about combating side effects or ask at these forums. You will find a wealth of information and nice people happy to help you. If you have any questions; I too will be happy to help. I find Proscar a very good medication. Take good care. ----Mont.

Congratz on your sucessful therapy man.hope you are better now.
I am really against taking medicines (I rarely take them even on harsh flu),as playing with hormone levels can be dangerous,I am just afraid that I would do something I would regret in the future for my pyshological problems about my hair..But it is sad to see shedding daily dose of hair in one shower..

Beg your pardon. It didn't come out on your post as to which product or medication you were using. You might want to check it and repost. Poor guy. Itching can be torture. Here is are some quick relief tips.
***Ice pack or bagged frozen vegetables as cold compress-- wrap the frozen item in paper towel or wash cloth and apply it to the site(s). This will act as an anti inflammatory.
>>>Calamine Lotion gently spread on the sight will soothe and help heal. Work for most any allergic reaction and irritation.
****Menthol lotion or gel. May sting slightly at first, but is an excellent antiflammitory medication. Derived from peppermint, it also has antiseptic properties.
>>>Stop using any shampoos , hair gels and hair products that contain alcohol and scents/perfumes. At least for a while. Switch to Johnsons' Baby Shampoo. Or an herbal one with Rosemary in it. Ask at your natural food store/co-op/herbal store/vitamin center.
****Once I understand your product/problem I may be able to help you further. I hope this helps.

When I said Menthol was derived from from peppermint, I meant the peppermint plant.
>>> Alternatively buy a small peppermint plant from the garden section of your grocery store or garden center, or some mint sprigs from the vegetable section. Crush up a bit a few leaves and stems and stems and smear a little at a time on your scalp until you have just the right amount. Makes your scalp tingle nicely with a refreshing scent.
