What is considered the best way to start propecia for someone who has never taken it before? I am considering starting right on 1mg but I've heard others say starting on .25 or .5 is safer for side effects?

Also does not look like the "propecia" pills can be broken into smaller amounts . Any suggestions for this ?

Yes if you have 1mg pills then take one a day and check progress at 6 months and again at 12 months.
Take a baseline picture of your hair..then again at least once a month so you can see your progression..good luck

Thanks for the replies I think I will try 1 mg
Take detailed photos of your hairline. That way you can really tell if its effective or not. Most people don't ever get too much growth there. People like the poster Somebody are the exceptions who responded great all over.

If you can respond like the poster Somebody, you will be very lucky and exceed your expectations but its good you don't have unreasonable expectations for your present situation.

Yea I am finally "taking the plunge". Really hoping I can take the meds and it will ease my mind a bit.

Are you on finasteride yourself ?

Yes, been on it for 11 years now. It helps keep it at a snails pace. I switched to some new minoxidils and I am getting new growth that has not happened in many years. Minoxidil definitely can give regrowth better than finasteride but finasteride still helps with the fundamental process of balding while minoxidil just keeps those hairs in the growth phase longer and sometimes will bring back some old vellus hairs to life.

Wow 11 years , well that is inspiring. I've been on minoxidil for about a year and no improvement.

From what I have seen all these years is that finasteride and minoxidil used together gets the best results versus each of them on their own. I know people don't believe in LLT. But for me, I have the Laser Cap and it definitely does help with the other two but more just to thicken up the existing hair and make them healthier.

Have you had any side effects in the 11 years?

Same as me.
I take 1.5 mg

So you break one pill in half, and take another one.

Before I get a lame response from people like Densch57, let me say there's
more than one way to divide Finasteride into three/halfs. Don't believe me? I'll
show you.

That's so true.

Finasteride can take up to two years to show maximum hair density benefits.

Minoxidil needs some non vellus hair on the scalp, even if slight, and sometimes just
having a new bald spot it can be effective one. Although it's useless without an anti
DHT agent.
