Some Questions About Hairpiece, Europe

Hello guys,

I'm new at this forum, so i'll introduce myself. I am a guy mid twentys from the Netherlands and i wear for 5 years a hairpiece.

I go to a salon once every four weeks. They clean it for me, reattach my hairpiece and they dye my hairpiece. I pay € 125,- every month for this service. They order every year 3 pieces for me. Every year i complain more and more about my hairpiece, and now i wanna do something about it :).

First of all, because of the weather my hair discolours every time. Is there something i can do about it? What is the best solution so the sun wont affect the colour of my hair? And how many times do you guys dye your hair, for let's say every month? I'm worrying people wil notice it, and it doens't like very normal.

Second is that i don't have the freedom to put on or of my hair. The hair is glued at my remaining hair at the sides and the back. In the front i use tape that i can refresh. So my second question is: does someone knows a good supplier in Europe for a reasonable price? And someone that is better than what i got. The knots aren't bleached, the thickness is too high and you can see the front easily. Also you can see the base if you look at top of it. So i want a higher quality for a more reasonable price.

Third question is: can i ask my salon for the template he made a few years ago? I think he has it somewhere, because he knows every your the size of it.

Fourth question: how do you guys take cair of your hairpiece? Do you guys wash it every week? day? And do you guys use a lotion or a conditioner or something?

Hope you guys can help me out. Oh yeah, sorry if it's sometimes bad English.

Cheers!

Hey Newfryer, and welcome.

There is no reason to pay someone that much money for what you can do at home for the cost of materials. I would do a full-head glue re-bond every week, before moving to all tape.

Freedom? It's called buying the right solvent for the glue used... and you do it yourself.

You can send me a PM, about who I get my hair from if you wish.

You may want to get a new template made... if your baldness has changed at all. They are not hard to do with a friend.

Lots of info here on self-maintenance.

Glue back and sides, and tape front, you have a UTS with a lace front?

Hi Newfryer, welcome. Taking your questions:

First of all, because of the weather my hair discolours every time. Is there something i can do about it? What is the best solution so the sun wont affect the colour of my hair? And how many times do you guys dye your hair, for let's say every month? I'm worrying people wil notice it, and it doens't like very normal.

I don't dye my hair at all - my hairpieces last for 5 months without dyeing. I do 2 things. First, I protect the pieces from the sun as much as possible, by using a leave-in conditioner in the hair every day, wearing a straw hat or bandana where possible if I am going to be in the sun all day, and sometimes wearing an old hairpiece if I am spending a long period on the beach or in the water. Second, I regularly use colour-correcting shampoo or conditioner to correct any sun damage which does occur. I have light coloured hair, so the sun can create a greenish tinge. Darker hair gets a reddish tinge. Both of those can be corrected with colour-correcting shampoo or conditioner if you do it regularly.

So my second question is: does someone knows a good supplier in Europe for a reasonable price?

I will PM you with some suggestions.

Third question is: can i ask my salon for the template he made a few years ago? I think he has it somewhere, because he knows every your the size of it.

Sure, you can ask, but he may refuse, and if he does, there is probably nothing you can do. But it's pretty easy to make a template, so don't allow that to stop you getting a better supplier.

Fourth question: how do you guys take cair of your hairpiece? Do you guys wash it every week? day? And do you guys use a lotion or a conditioner or something?

I only wash mine once a week, which is enough. Hairpiece hair doesn't get dirty like growing hair, because it is not connected to sebaceous glands. For the same reason, it can dry out quickly if you wash it too often. I take my piece off every week, and I wash it then. It's very important to condition it after you wash it with a good quality rich conditioner, but try to keep the conditioner off the base and knots, because it can cause the knots to loosen and shed.

Hope that's useful.
