So Whats The Deal With Dutasteride?

As most here know i tried finasteride for a year and it definitely did not work ( thats a whole other story for another time ) I am currently only on Oral minoxidil and i am having some success, but i know i probably wont be able to maintain my results without a DHT blocker in my regimen.. So for those on dutasteride or that have tried dutasteride, how did it go?
Im scared about trying it honestly with all the hair line horror stories floating about but im willing to at least try it, because you never know unless you try right?
All replies are appreciated!

Loads of stories of dutasteride ruining the hairline, I beleive the logic behind is that free testosterone is raised by 30% and some believe that hairline is more susceptible to testosterone than DHT.

I don’t know how much truth there is behind it but there definely has been enough people complaining that Duta did affect their hairline for it to hold some truth.

On the other hand you see many people with incredibly success and actually regrowing a lot of their hairline.

In my opinion anything that nukes your DHT will generally be beneficial to your hair overall. I’m considering adding it to my routine if my Dermarolling yields no results.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah i 100% believe the hair line horror stories as i believe finasteride hurt my hair line. Are you on finasteride and are you having any success?
On a side note, I love Halo and your pic speaks loud haha

Haha I’m glad you appreciate the halo pic! I’ve been on propecia coming up to 4 years now, and honestly I couldn’t tell you if it helped. The first year I was on it I was on a permanent shed, I remember thinking that my hair is gradually getting worse but I was never certain. Then I added minoxidil to my regime and got insane regrowth for a year and since then I’ve slowly been losing that regrowth.

I’m still above basline (slightly) but my fear is that propecia never worked for me and minxodil just masked the issue hence all my follicles were slowly dying these past 4 years. I was always considering Dutasteride but I thought 18 was too young, I’m 22 now so I’m ready to take the leap.

How long did it take for you to see the full results from minoxidil? Im a little over 3 months in and overall my hair is a bit thicker, my hairline has improved slightly and i got a sh*t ton of thin hairs on previously bald temples too.

@AnxiousAndy I think after 1 month in it was just constant thickening until around month 5. Because I am a diffuse thinner I could really notice the results. The second photo was my wet hair at peak regrowth, now I would say I’m pretty much back to the original photo.

Atleast my hairloss is still undetectable with dry hair... it’s just a shame having such good results and it only lasting a year.

Wow dude those are some dramatic results! How do you even apply it to your scalp without it getting in your hair? I dont expect to get the results you got but i am at least maintaining for now. We need better treatments.

The joke of it all is that I didn’t even apply it to my hair, I was applying it to my face for beard growth. I pray for better treatments but they’ve always been 5 years away haha. Although the news in the past year has been looking more positive.

So you got your results by using minoxidil on your face? Dude you must be in the top 1% of responders! Have you considered using 10% min?
Yeah ive read posts on hair loss forums from the early 2000s and they were sure we would of had better treatments in 5 years.. 15 years later its still the big 3, plus dutasteride. I really hope tsuji, brotzu and breezula come out soon.

I was a super responder - managed to grow a beard from it too! I’ve been applying it to my hair the past year and a half but I think it’s lost it’s kick. You know what it may actually be worth a try, but I’m going to wait a couple of months before adding any new treatments as I’ve just started dermarolling.

My money is currently on Tsuji

You're both NW1.5 at max and hoping for Tsuji ? You do know this is a hair transplant ? You won't need it
Your best hope to a sideless maintenance is Replicel/Shiseido, it may even give you enough regrowth to be NW0.00 again
Btw, Shiseido is supposed to be on Japanese market next year

Dermarolling should prove beneficial, especially to our very own minoxman! That sure would be my super power lol. I agree, Tsuji will likely be the closest we will get to a cure for decades to come.

@BaldyBalderBald I respect you as a poster but would you really call me less than a NW2? I personally see a NW2.5.... keep in mind the camera is of poor quality and the lighting just is not good for displaying my hairline. Assess it as you see it, plus a little more given the lighting.

Yeah, solid NW2 i agree, not NW1.5, but i don't think you can undergo a hair transplant surgery with that kind of hairline actually, i don't know how Tsuji will perform it, but i still think your best hope is Replicel/Shiseido guys

Why not? I was not in the market for a hair transplant anyway, but i am curious to know why why you think that.. maybe because i have a very strong V shaped hairline? I know my pattern doesnt quite traditionally follow the norwood scale, my temploral recession points are very high compared to most normies. Im not familiar with Shiseido.. isn't that just wounding and JAK3 inhibitors?

How much minoxidil do you apply?

Because you haven't lost enough to be suitable for a hair transplant, and lowering your hairline can be very tricky, maybe you can fill your temples but many surgeons will refuse it.

Regarding Replicel/Shiseido, i'm surprised you didn't hear about it here
https://replicel.com/product-pipeline/rch-01-hair-regeneration/
It's much more than that, basically they do a small punch biopsy on your DHT immune hair, replicate cells and inject them back in your scalp, granting your hair that DHT immunity, for how long we don't know, maybe a few years, without potential sides
First results were promising, more density and small regrowth for 24 months withtout other treatments, and no further loss

I dont tend to research future treatments, but that does sound very impressive. Japan seems to be the heart and soul of future hair loss technology!

I have very agressive hairloss, I know that even with all the possible treatments on the market I will be a heavily diffused NW4 by 30. I caught my hair loss early and started with both minoxidil and finasteride, and even those were not enough to cease my hairloss :(

Maybe Shiseido will be enough but I doubt it.

@DHTpolice @michel sapin originally I would only apply a small amount to cover my facial hair. Now I apply quite a lot of it as it’s really hard to apply foam to long hair, but very rarely apply it to the face. I got massive facial bloat in the first year I was applying minoxidil but that has now ceased.
