We need this! If not we'll have to wait until 2019/ 2020...

This would be our best chance to get anything good this year in my opinion.

I believe this is the patent to SM04554: http://www.google.com/patents/US20140080902

There are several formulas in there but I don't know which one is for SM04554. Is there any way we can find out?

It could end up being carcinogenic. I would tread carefully.

Hellouser didnt Swooping say its most likely formula 2? You smarter guys should be all over getting this made up for a group buy.

Not aware of him saying that. If we had any indication of which formula it is i'm sure someone out there would get it made and try it out.

I agree. I'm actually surprised that not more people have shown any interest in this. A product that gives 10 % regrowth in 3 months is a must-have in my opinion.

So what happens in people? In March Samumed presented data on the use of its baldness drug, code-named SM04554, in 300 patients at the American Academy of Dermatology in Washington, D.C. Subjects’ heads were photographed and hairs counted. Those on placebo saw their hair count drop 2.5%. Those who rubbed a 0.15% solution of SM04554 on their heads daily saw hair count increase 9.6%. Those who got a 0.25% solution saw hair count increase 6.9%.

Hair-loss specialists who saw the data were not blown away. Those results aren’t big enough to be certain they’re not occurring by chance or that men will really feel that the product is making their hair grow back. “I think at best they are presenting a trend,” said Daniel Zelac, a dermatologist at the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine in La Jolla, Calif.

Wilma Bergfeld, a Cleveland Clinic hair-loss expert and past president of the AAD, helped run Samumed’s hair-loss studies. She says it’s too soon to say whether Samumed’s drug is more effective than Rogaine. That drug was introduced in 1988 to a wave of hype–but men still go bald. For most men Rogaine prevents further hair loss but won’t cause a lush regrowth of hair.Samumed’s scalp solution will have to do better.

When it comes to Samumed’s valuation–and medicine as a whole–the arthritis data are far more important.

That pisses me off

Their hair treatment was dead as soon as they presented those abysmal results.

At worst I would say their data is inconclusive.

It was a 3 month trial. A longer trial and more data needs to be presented before coming to any conclusions.

What did everyone expect to happen over a 3 month period? Become a NW0 overnight?

Everyone got so excited because their presentation was listed under the "breakthrough" section of the conference. I think the reason why they were in that section is because they were able to show hair growth using a completely new angle of attack. Considering for the last 20-30 years all we've had is minoxidil and finasteride I'd say their data is a breakthrough in medical terms, just not the breakthrough we wanted to see as hair loss sufferers.

I'd prefer not to take the risk of a possible carcinogenic treatment for just 10% growth.

I agree but we don't know if 10% is all you get.

My personal opinion is that they/we don't know how effective the treatment is yet.

Does that 10% growth rate increase over time?

There are so many unanswered questions. Investors will want answers to those questions just as badly as we do.

The new angle of attack is a good sign in general. More awareness has been brought to Androgenetic Alopecia over the years and it'll bring new researchers with different ideas for treatment.

It's naive at this point imo to think we could use a medicine/drug in the near future and get proper regrowth. Just a very unrealistic idea in general that gets more and more clear.

It's way more realistic to expect something from a full on preventative angle (gene therapy focused on AR) or making new follicles from scratch that are androgen resistant (Tsuji) that is going to beat Androgenetic Alopecia.

F*ck all this. i am over harvesting the f*ck out of my donor and going for a 15,000 graft FUT with H&W. Women only look at the top of your head anyways. They don't even care if the sides and back are riddled with moth eaten scar tissue. who's with me!! haha

I'm having some doubts that 6-8k grafts is the maximum. If a human head has around 40,000 grafts (non-balding) and a NW6 pattern has an average of 175cm2 area, then normal density at 60 grafts/cm2 would mean we lose about 10,500 and have roughly 30,000 grafts left over everywhere else. So.... why the hell can't we harvest MORE? If hair loss is only noticeable when we've lost HALF our density, then who cares about the sides and back being HALF as dense? At least after you have good density up top and more importantly a HAIRLINE.
