Well i've definetely had more pimples facially since starting finasteride, acne too. Right now my forehead is covered in small "invisible" to anyone elselittle bumps and i get the odd bigger zit there too.

Anyone else get this?

I was thinking of perhaps using some copper peptides on my forehead to see if the zits heal quicker and if it can improve the quality, smoothness and texture of my skin facially...i suppose folligen would be my preferred brand. I could obviously also appy it to my hairline concurrently.

Comments, observations, thoeires and experiences welcome.

I would use the products from http://www.skinbiology.com which sells the folligen of course. I would not rely on copper peptides to "heal" your pimples, but I would use the exfol serum they sell to help with the pimples. It is salicylic acid with a few other things. The exfol serum is good for people with acne since it is oil free and is non-comedogenic, meaning it won't clog pores. Don't use the cream version. Now............as far as the copper peptides, use the cp serum they sell, it is good for people with acne, since it is non-comedogenic as well. It will help keep you face looking good and smooth, and will help "heal" any scars that are or may develope from the acne. You could use the exfol serum in the morning and use the cp serum at night before bed time. Or vice versa....don't think it would matter. The cp serum goes on very well with no after color, meaning no one well tell you have it on your face. Same with the exfol serum.
By the way, I have used these products with good results. Another thing - your skin might develope a nice bronze color from using the copper peptides on the skin.....it did me and looks real good. Any questions on this .....feel free to ask.....I'll reply. :)

Weird, I thought I read somewhere that finasteride actuallly helps some people with their acne problem, not make it worse. :?

All depends on the person I suppose. I do remember when I was taking saw palmetto extract, it did clear up my acne. As far as for my hair, I am not really sure to tell you the truth. :)

kalika - thanks for the input. So you've had success with these products, why did you start using them initially? I'll look into them.

I think the real solution would be to "re-balance" my hormones dht/test/estrogen - it's clearly a hormonal issue to me thats causing the acne and minor skin problems, but perhaps the best we can do is treat the symptoms not the cause. But i do this cu peps could "counterbalance" the skin issue by minimising any scars or permanent damage.

Goingat20 - i don't think anti-bacterial facial washes are gonna help much, as i don't think its bacteria causing the acne/pimples, it's perhaps an increase in test or even an increase in estrogen which is causing these minor breakouts.

Lizz -

this might be just a temporary side effect until your system adjusts to the finasteride.

Try RETIN-A Cream!

Best thing in the world for zits. I think it's available over the counter in the UK.

Have you tried retin-a? I thought that was primarily an anti-wrinkle treatment. I've been on finasteride 11 months now, so my system is taking its time adjusting.

I ALWAYS keep a tube handy. I got a prescription for it eons ago to rub on my scalp prior to my minoxidil application. My Doctor told me it's good for wrinkles too.

But, it's definitely a zit fighting cream also. I wouldn't tell you wrong man.

I can smear the stuff on my face pretty well with no problem - but some people find it too harsh for their skin.

Don't use it too near your eyes because the skin there is more tender.

Use it once per day before bed - as it breaks down in sunlight and will make your skin susceptible to sun damage if you apply it during the day.

I've been using the stuff for about 8 years - not as a hairloss remedy anymore because it didn't help me there.

But as soon as I get a zit - rub it in in - BAM - it's gone. My experience anyway.

You DO understand that it's not necessary to use it prior to your minoxidil application??

Hi Bryan - yes, many folks use it successfully as a hairloss / regrowth treatment on its own.

It might just be my imagination - but when I rubbed it on my scalp in recent years it actually accelerated my hairloss.

But - whenever I break it out to smear on some zits - I still work some up into my temporal areas :)

Because I didn't have any success w/ the cream alone, and MinSaw-A trashed my scalp, I'm thinking of trying Dr. Lee's Minoxidil w/ Retin-A after my xandrox15 runs out.

(I guess that means another office appt. DOHH!)

No, that's not what I meant. I meant that even if you're just using Retin-A as an adjunct to increase the absorption of topical minoxidil, it's not necessary to use it prior to the minoxidil.

Yeah - the stuff's not cheap - but 1 tube lasts forever.

Dr. Lee! First it was the massage oils and now he's sending me flowers. I have to find a way to let him down easy.

Do it live on Jerry Springer! Title of the show "honey, i've something to tell you"! Doctor Proctor can walk on and he'll call Lee a b**ch and they'll start a rubmle, and in the mean time Pickart will turn up in his Ferrari and sweep you off your feet.... :freaked2:

(Lizzad - totally hilarious) Yeah - Proctor always was the jealous type. As far as Pickart goes - if I can get some free tricomin out of the deal, what the hell? :p (Lee's history)
