Someone recently said that they thought I was a 1.5 and just curios if that’s something I should be concerned about and start taking action or not

Depends on your family history and age. Also depends on how much you value your looks/hair. I started treatment as a NW1 at 39 because I noticed my hair was thinning and my dad was going bald at only 17. I have balding on both sides. I took a genetic test that confirmed I had the balding gene. If you have balding in your family, then you might want to think about starting treatment.

Yeah pretty much all my uncles are bald but my dad is a solid Norwood 2.5 at 53 so it’s pretty weird for me. I also took a genetic test and I’m pretty scared for the results but hey even if I am balding at least I spotted it pretty early. Thanks for the feedback.

You have any photos of your hair pulled back and wet?

do i have to wait to see a derm to start treatment?
Yes, but see a doctor that only specializes in hair loss. I would go to a hair transplant doctor but under the intention you want to just see if you are going bald.

Definitely would start treatment. You are thinning at the forelock. You have a NW2A pattern emerging. You got a pattern similar to @kj6723

Not trying to be in denial also but a lot of people have told me that I'm fine, like on here and baldtruthtaIk. That's why I'm getting pretty excited for my derm appointment and my gene test

You are fine now. You have minimal hair loss. If you want to treat it early you can. If not just wait 6 months and reassess. I don't think you are in denial. You came here and you are going to see a dermatologist. That's being proactive.

People have varied opinions on baldness and hairloss. I would suggest you to visit a competent dermatologist and get your hair checked for miniaturization as I had done. He will check the hair on you scalp with the hairs on your sides and back to compare their thickness and conclude whether miniaturization is taking place or not. Till then fingers crossed. I've been given by a green flag by my derm as well as many members over here so I guess I'm safe,FOR NOW.

So you were a nw1 at 39?? Did u get the diffusal thinning at that point?

Yes and even though I started on finasteride at that age, I never improved and actually went below baseline but at a very slow rate. I also have thyroid issues too so it's common to have diffuse thinning with that issue too. I also started coloring my hair at that age but I only color new gray roots. I use Paul Mitchell N plus color for gray which is very gentle on the hair. Overall, I still have good hair at my age but I have lost density and my Norwood level has gone to about a NW1.5.

How did you genetically test that you had the balding gene? Uh maybe another question is what gene is the baldness gene? Isnt it a bunch of genes otherwise why wouldnt we have just genetically turned that one gene off.
