Today I went into NYC to see a "true hair loss specialist." This guy is on the Diplomate American Board of Dermatology and is a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at NYU. He must have have been in his late 60's or early 70's, so I thought this would be good.
So he asked me when I started noticing my hair loss and I told him. Before I could say anything else, he examined my scalp and said yes I have male pattern baldness but my I'm not really losing hair. I tried to explain to him that my hair has lost about 3/4 of its density and he basically kept telling me to shut up and stop thinking about it. He also told me to stop using Propecia because "it doesn't do anything" and there have been studies that show it can cause the prostate disorder that it was designed to stop. He said I have a pretty nasty case of dermatitis and when I told him about Nizoral and that it wasn't working well, he said that Nizoral isnt that great and he'd rather me use a Zinc based shampoo and prescribed something called "zincom" anyone ever heard of that? He also said Tea Tree shampoo is "bullshit."
He continued to tell me I am in need of psychiatrist. I wanted to show him pictures so he could see how badly my hair has thinned, but I honestly feared what he would do. Pretty shitty experience if you ask me. I got nothing out of this appointment that cost $350 other than stopping Propecia.
