Saw My New System, Some Good News And Some Bad.

I visited the salon to have a look at my hair system this morning. The base material (mono with poly rim and a lace hairline) was unexpectedly good. It was both light and soft, and undetectable through the hair. Now for the bad. The color did not match my bio hair well enough, so I brought up my concerns about blending and detectability. The salon owner understood, we initially chose the color partly because of my dark eyebrows thinking it would balance everything out better, but in this case a seamless blend would be impossible given that my hair is very light grey at the sides, bordering on white. Also, the system's hair is somewhat coarser than my bio-hair. My piece is 80% synthetic grey hair so hopefully texture is something that can be easily adjusted.
Nonetheless I was so impressed with the technology that I immediately placed another order for a lighter hair color, slightly higher hair density (medium-light rather than light), and finer hair texture to better match what I have. She gave me a 30% discount on the order.
All in all I am not terribly disappointed, I'll take this as part of the learning curve.

That’s great news. Any pictures? I’m going for one over the next few months. Would be great to compare

I didn't have this one attached, I felt the color was just too far off from my bio hair and it would not have blended properly. I ordered a replacement with the correct specs this time, it will take another 2-3 months for delivery. It's an expensive lesson but as I am completely new to this I half expected that my first order was not going to work out. My biggest worry though was the base material which actually turned out to be very good. The color mismatch was unexpected.

Not sure I follow...salon did not select good color match and you pay 70% of the cost...?
Who has the piece now?
For custom orders, you can select the grey percentage distribution, say 90% on sides, 70% on back as an example...

Your hair color should have been, at minimum been matched with a hair color ring (samples of actual colored hair). Usually, when ordering a custom hair system, at least one (but sometimes more) sample of your own hair is cut, and sent along for perfect match.

As for texture, I don't understand. At 80% syntehtic gray, the texture you are feeling is mostly the gray, which is pretty fine. Are they ordering your system with human gray?

Unfortunately I signed a no-refund contract for the piece. I have the piece at home now and will have them cut it in eventually to see how it looks, but first I want to receive the replacement. Definitely I got some bad advice at the salon but I should have been more careful and thoughtful. The thought of having darker hair intrigued me at the time of ordering, but once I placed it on my head yesterday I realized there was no way to make it look convincing. Lesson learned.

The 80% grey is all synthetic, the rest is human hair. They did have a color ring and I knew there was a mismatch at the sides, I thought it could be handled with a proper cut-in. We also sent a hair sample, but only from the back where my hair is darker.
My hair is very fine, so I suppose anything matched against it will feel coarse.

At least you have the piece. It could work..nice thing about grey is that it is not evenly on sides and back. I usually get 90% but have worn stock 80% which is more my back color...try it and you may like it.
Also, I find washing the piece lightens it up a bit. Somehow grey synthetic become whiter after 2 wash..try shampooing it in the sing with plug and you will see the water is grey...
