Hey boys,

I'm going to add S5 cream to my regiment as I believe it is a somewhat effective for AA without side effects (thoughts on that statement welcomed). Anyhow I was just curious for some feedback from guys who use this stuff how to incorporate into my daily routine.

I currently take rogaine foam twice a day and to be honest it's a real hassle. I'm debating dropping it to once a day and adding Retin-A to it to increase absorption. (Study stating that rogaine once a day with 0.01% Tretinoin solution makes it as affect as twice daily solution of Minoxidil - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17902730)

Is the S5 cream like a gel or a pomade? Would I be able to apply it before going out or would it make my hair look ridiculous? I have heard that it is quite pungent as well? More so would I need to consider the timing for Rogaine along with S5 or can they be applied at the same time?

Anyhow I hope this is the most appropriate area to post these questions.
Thanks,

Hi Wilson,
When you mention AA do you mean Alopecia Areata or Androgenetic Alopecia (Androgenetic Alopecia)?
Thanx for the clarification.

Sorry I don't use the treatment cream so I'm no help there, but I share your curiosity. :)

The S5 cream is just a cream man.
Its very easy to use, and since you're applying a microfilm of it just to the root of the hair it doesn't impact styling at all.
In the AM I usually shower, dry my hair, put a small amount of S5 cream in the area I want, wait like 20 minutes and then proceed to style it as I choose.

My GF always tells me my hair smells like weed though when we're laying in bed after I put it on haha

That's good to hear about the styling! I don't mind the smell of dank. Is it feasible to apply S5 in a diffuse hair-loss pattern / the whole head or it effectively just for "spot" treatment?

I found it on whole sale hair website for like 1/3 of the price.

i thought spironolactone didnt work....

Well oral spironolactone will work for sure , however it will make you a girl. Topical spironolactone seems to be effective for some in preventing or atleast slowing hairloss. Unfortunately, I have been doing more research into it and have found some sources say it could go systematic. Which is a real gut punch for me. Why can't anything anti-androgenic not have reports online from guys saying it goes systematic. Anyhow I'm going to try and research this more. Again would really love other users who use S5 to weigh in on this potential for systematic sides.

Digidako, care to share the recipe? I'm looking to make some myself.
For sure.
I usually order 25g of pure spironolactone powder at a time.
To make a 5% solution I do the following:
PHASE A:
3g Spironolactone dissolved in small amount of ethanol + DMI
- If the spironolactone doesn't dissolve right away, I usually fill up a saucepan with water and place the pyrex beaker (containing the mixture) in the centre, and stir until it is dissolved entirely.
PHASE B:
Take the aqueous solution and mix with 2 fluid ounces of base cream (http://www.amazon.com/Premium-Cream...F8&qid=1453668291&sr=8-4&keywords=base+cream; or my favourite--> http://www.skinactives.com/Sea-Kelp-Ultramarine.html)

This is just for a simple spironolactone cream.

Keep in mind you could add anything to the phase 1 solution, (I.e., Minoxidil, etc)

Im thinking about adding some 17a-estradiol to my next batch as it acts as a local 5AR inhibitor.
In theory, a topical AA (spironolactone) will occupy the AR; while the 17-ae inhibits 5ar. This would mean absolutely no DHT would be able to attack the hair follicle.

I doubt its efficacy as a standalone defence, but in combination with Finasteride and Minoxidil I think it would show results. The only problem with the 17a-estradiol is that every piece of experimental literature I've found regarding its clinical efficacy has been extrapolated from studies in which ALL of the participants were women. From what I understand (see: W.H. Moos, J.A. Dykens, N. Howell, 17α-Estradiol: A Less-Feminizing Estrogen, Drug Dev. Res. 2008, 69:177-184), the alpha stereoisomer shows no feminizing activity, a factor that becomes important if it were to be systemically absorbed. It might very well stop hair loss, but I doubt it will regrow anything.
This table is taken from a cosmo study (http://www.cosmopharmaceuticals.com/news/press/pr2010/2010-10-06.aspx), comparing a 1% 17a-estradiol solution to CB-03-01.

Seems quite promising if you ask me

Anyone have thoughts on potential for systematic sides? These are obviously anecdotal claims from online guys but do you guys think it's possible someone with a high androgen sensitivity would have sides? (it sucks being a hypochondriac)

Which compound are you referring to ? spironolactone of 17a-estradiol?

I was referring to topical spironolactone. I found some posts from various forms saying topical spironolactone was giving them sides. I'm not trying to fear-monger and I have read the studies that indicate it's can only affect local androgen receptors. I dont know though.
