Rogaine suitable only for the Vertex?

Hello all,

I bought a 3 month supply of Rogaine and read through the little leaflet that came with it.

On there it says use for "thinning hair or gradual hair loss on the top of the scalp (vertex only as shown on the page) It is not intended for frontal baldness or a receding hairline."

What they call the Vertex I have always known as the crown and I have no thinning or hairloss there.
I do not have a widows peak or thinning at the temples either.

What I do have is thinning on the top of my head (I don't know the proper term for that area) from where my hairline starts on my forehead in the centre, I have a cow lick and that is thinning and behind that area too.
It has probably thinned behind that too but not as far back at the Crown.

I have not been shedding and do not seem to lose many hairs but I think each hair is reducing in size and I can see my scalp easier and my hair lays flatter than it used to, so maybe I am catching it early.

So I was thinking I cannot use the Rogaine but then had a read on this website and found

"Rogaine is for men who have lost a visually noticeable amount of hair density, and are not satisfied keeping the current density that they have. It works in all areas of the scalp, despite what the insert may say, and it is a phenomenal part of a combination regimen with Propecia and Nizoral shampoo."

What is your take on this?

And where can I buy Nizoral in the UK over the counter?

Yep minoxidil/Rogaine works all over, check out the many examples of success in the Success Stories section.

You can buy Nizoral from Boots. They have it behind the counter, we're lucky that it's pretty cheap in the UK.

Good luck :)

Ok thanks for the replies.

Regarding Nizoral shampoo, is there more than one type?

Don't want to buy the wrong one.

Yup, there's 1% which you can buy over the counter and 2% where you can get prescribed for. finfighter's thread states that a study shown 2% nizoral to be as effective as 2% minoxidil so I guess that's what you'll be wanting. :)

I just applied the Rogaine foam for the first time after washing my hair and I found it difficult to get onto my scalp.
Does it matter if the hair is still wet?

The can is kept in a cool cupboard and I shook it before squirting it into my hand.

The foam just seems to evaporate on my hand and my hair is about 4 inches long on top where I need to apply it. It felty like I was just applying the foam to my hair.

I don't want to shave my head just so I can apply it easier.

generally minoxidil can work all over, but the real test is no one will know untill you try it and give it sometime.

I used minoxidil on my hair line and front baldness and no improvement after 4 years... so I just gave up few weeks ago since the damage to my skin was to bad.

So I feel at this point its only good for what it says on the can as in it does the vertex best. There are as said before many cases of success however, so its a try and see approach.

I used it on slightly wet hair, apparantly it absorbs more with slightly wet hair.

Instructions are pretty straight forward as in apply half a capful to effected areas twice a day, or liquids 1ml to effected area twice a day.... read the instructions though just in case of side of bottle !

applying on a shaved head will be alot better to managable but hey we all need hair right :) so my advise is use the foam to mould and shape your hair style.
if your applying it to a area where there is hair loss it should at least get close to your skin....

Thanks for the tips and help.

I have found the easiest way to apply the foam is to shake the can and then part the hair in the affected area and turn the can upside down and sqirt small amounts of the foam onto the scalp, bit by bit.

It is still difficult to apply to the scalp rather than the hair though.
